  1. In my experience, a lot. Already many campground hosts around the state are not public employees, and the customer service I've seen left a lot to be desired.
  2. There's not a whole lot you can do to prevent a knee hyperextending, especially when plunge stepping. It's the one of the weakest joints that happen to sit below the strongest muscles in your body. I think a knee sleeve would just give you a false sense of security and lull you into a bit of carelessness on the descent. Anecdotally I would say plunge stepping is one of the more dangerous parts of mountaineering around here. I've seen and heard of lots of twisted ankles, twisted knees, dislocated shoulders, sprained wrists and a busted femur - all from just the scenario you described about plunge stepping. Skiing is more fun anyways!
  3. Interesting point Matt. I have a small policy through work, but probably can't hurt to reinforce the disability.
  4. No such thing as too much butter or bacon on Denali. And don't forget the HC
  5. At the bottom of the page is the WCC's Donate button. You can earmark the donation for Vantage. http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/
  6. Unfortunately not out yet, but go to 1:45 if you want to see a ninja fight on the side of cliff. [video:youtube]
  7. That's either a joke or you don't know what you're talking about. Hard to catch subtle humor on the interwebs. Don't worry...totally a joke And last I heard the Spoonbill was as close to production as it'll get. Give em a call to verify.
  8. $549.95 (tent)/ $44.95 (groundsheet) retail $450 for both Sierra Designs Convert 3 person, 4-season, single wall tent with groundsheet. New in bag, and hasn't even been set up. http://www.sierradesigns.com/p-148-convert-3.aspx "3 Person / 4-Season We took Chris Warner’s feedback from his K2 climb and created the Convert 3, a single-wall shelter featuring an internal- and external-pole configuration, super ventilation, and a zippered floor opening."
  9. Woop woop! Nice right up Bryan.
  10. I'll still talk smack about that stupid idea, any time you want... It was a brand new day when I went from my 02's to my 01's. And, yes, I've heard it all regarding tele stuff heavier than my AT stuff and on, and on...
  11. not to mention Rollerblades and Kleenex. Biggest brand fanboys I've ever seen are the car and motorcycle guys though.

    Seriously?

    Riding a cable at 2:34
  13. I don't think you'll find a commercial place willing to take on the liability of renting harnesses or ropes.
  14. This. Lotsa folks talked smack about wiregates and tele bindings with a walk mode, too. And I want a magnetic rope that clips itself into my draws as I climb by. That would be sweet.
  15. Except for that Metolius one that clips on to your harness Ha ha - that doesn't count (I actually own one. It sits next to my Mountainsmith fanny pack buried in the back corner of my garage)
  16. That totally sux. I wonder if it was the park employee who complained...I don't think a cop would waste his time on something like that on Cap Hill. If it were on Mercer Island though...
  17. I don't think fanny packs were ever designed for technical climbing. Saying Mountainsmith makes poorly designed packs is kinda like being mad at Timberland for making poorly designed ice climbing boots. Just sayin'.
  18. AAJ: $35 retail ANAM: $12 retail Why not pay another $30 for full on membership?
  19. I remember watching this video over and over as a kid simply trying to learn how to run more efficiently (for track). I guess if you just take the right way to do something, slap a new name on it (usually having to do with core, extreme, something chinese, or a combination of those) and re-package it to the masses as something new and totally different, you can make a lot of money!
  20. If you stay at the bivy site (next to the park,)the camping fee includes the parking fee for the park. It ends up being just a couple of bucks for the camping.
  21. This tent has a few cascade volcanoes and an Alaskan expedition under its belt and is in great condition. The poles are all brand new; after having one warrantied they just sent me a complete set. $275 (or make me an offer). I'm happy to ship. Marmot product page. http://marmot.com/products/thor_2p?p=118,71 You would get the one on the left
