  1. FWIW the Everett Mountain Rescue squad will be in the campground hanging from trees and building tyroleans over the river and stuff.
  2. Crampons needed on N. Ridge of Stewey right now? Doing the full North Ridge and am wondering about glacier at the base and snowfields in the Cascadian. Or do I get to leave them in the car? Thanks in advance!
  3. Why not REI. Use them then just return them. Weak sauce.
  4. None of the FF down jackets are designed to be worn under shells, especially the Volant. If your Arc'teryx jacket actually fits over one...you might be sizing your shell too large.
  5. Are there developed routes at the Roche Harbor Quarry? I'm getting married there this summer and may need to blow off some steam
  6. Many Frontpoints have gone to Denali...but depending on when you go I might bump up to the Icefall for early season ascents. Mountain Trip used to recommend the Volant, but probably for later season ascents. The Icefall would be closest to an Absolute Zero parka (MH) or Marmots 8000m parka. The Frontpoint jacket is similar in thickness to the Volant, but cut longer (parka style). You can see the Volant in use at the following link. Big picture is ice climbing in Ouray. Lower right is sitting on top of Mt. Baker, middle picture is a Frontpoint sitting on the flanks of Mt. Silverthrone (Alaska Range), and the right is up on Mt. Rainier. Hope that helps! http://www.featheredfriends.com/Picasso/Garments/GarmentsMidweight.html
  7. Yeah...but that's probably what I'm gonna be doing when I'm retired
  8. Wednesday on the Discovery Channel. Matt Szundy and his crew at the Ascending Path played a big part in the making. Set your Tivo. http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=1.15781.25928.0.0
  9. It should bond just as well to the eVENT as it does to the Gore.
  10. I'm the guy who hasn't marked his gear so when stuff gets mixed up, mine's the stuff with nothing on it. It wasn't by design though. I'm just lazy.
  11. I've taken my dog to the top of Adams a couple of times now (a husky). Up near lunch counter she took off past where I could see her and disappeared for a bit. I cursed under my breath as I took off after her, but found her sitting in the middle of 5 hot girls camped out, having lunch. I didn't stay mad at her for very long.
  12. Back in the day a down sleeping bag manufacturer based also in Seattle used to make their down bags, which they then would put their label on. Definitely expedition worthy stuff.
  13. I've been dealing with it for the last 15 years off and on. Not much more to add other than check your ab/lower back muscle balance also. And evil roller of death is definitely a good choice. My PT also used ultra-sound to get to the IT band deep to the glutes.
  14. Arc'teryx has women's models with the crotch zipper.
  15. I've always thought the ban in National Parks was a bit antiquated and didn't make a lot of sense. In Washington I agree, no one needs them. But for the National Parks that are on the Mexican and Canadian borders where there is a lot of drug trafficking - there are a lot of pretty shady folks. You can make the argument that carrying for self defense is justified. The Everglades on the Southern tip of Florida ain't no Muir snowfield for example. The restrictions that are eased are for folks who have concealed permits anyways. Guys who were poaching wildlife in National Parks have been doing so regardless if there was a ban or not. Hillbillies shooting up signs are the same way.
  16. A wise man told me once that the best beer in the world is the one sitting in front of you.
  17. Depending on where the holes are, you may not have much of a choice where they'll be mounted relative to boot center. The general rule of thumb is the new holes need to be a "screws width away" from the old hole. With the Freerides, you need to pay attention to the holes that need to be drilled for the front and the heel. Any ski shop will know this - make sure they have the right jig though. Many alpine shops won't have them for AT bindings.
  18. I used to climb there regularly when I was in school at PLU. Dwayner still teaches his class there. It was always a good time when the Enchanted Forest came alive with people wearing homemade armor, swords and spears. They'd spend the afternoon "fighting" each other in made up accents and recover by slurping big gulps from the 7-11. Good times...good times...
  19. Ahhh...like a lot of other folks, reminds me of my experience on that ridge. I bivied near the summit and had some great views from the top at sunrise.
  20. I happened to be with the hottest one there, so there was none of that action. And "if you can touch them, they're real" 8D
  21. I went to the Jack Johnson concert and it was good. There was a lot of hot girls there too. And the right answer to the question is: just stop climbing at Vantage
