well, if they do hopefully they also come with a schematic showing you how to attach them.

i've always used webbing - in both ai and wi. and the people i've climbed with that have set up abalakov's en route have also always used webbing. i would think that webbing is "better" because there is much more surface area on the ice to dissipate "stuff" but that's a guess on my part. i'm sure someone else can provide us with a more technical opinion.

i was going to impart some of my own personal *wisdom* ... but instead i would like to suggest you read "tuesdays with morrie." it is short and powerful, and it will help you think about your own answers for the questions you are asking.

i try to limit it to people i actually know in some context, but sometimes it's fun to give it to others. it's generally all in fun, though.

i use the less-"clunky" rocky mountain gaiters. definitely not overkill and work great ... except for the snap is broken on one, but that doesn't seem to matter really.
