  1. some old guy (i think he was the ski patrol director at some fancy ski resort in colorado where there are actually a lot of telemark skiers) told me last winter that what i was doing was not telemark skiing; it was "freeheel skiing." according to his logic, you can only actually telemark ski on old straight skis without metal edges. probably have to be wearing wool pants and leather boots, too.
  2. anything you can wear for the bc can be used "at the hill." i've found that it helps to have some "regular" ski pants if you're doing lots of hill skiing, though. (heavy hill skiing can wreak more havoc on a $450 pair of bibs than you might care for in the long run ... and sometimes it's nice to have pants you don't have to layer for those long layovers on the chair. )
  3. Oh yea? Where do you work? 1st & jackson ... corner penthouse loft with the flowers and trees on the roof
  4. bunch of yos "locals" on the supertopo website. i can give you scotty's email address - check yo pm's. i think he's still on the yosar site ... or up on a wall. ;-)
  5. hey, i work like a block away from you guys!
  6. i think i have a theta variety of arcteryx shell. it's a little dirty now, but bomber as all heck as far as durability is concerned. seem to be quite a few nice shells out there these days.
  7. what a way to do more with your life when you are seemingly given less ...
  8. if the heli stinx is the type ski you want that setup would probably work fine for you. you can make any ski work really. just curious - what length alpine ski do you currently ski? if you're on shaped skis now, you would probably ski the same length for tele. give or take ... is $250 worth it to you? it's definitely better than paying retail, but you might look around on the 'net for some deals first and then maybe make her an offer ...
  9. i like the quote.
  10. now isn't that a disgusting picture!
  11. why are so many women's skis blue? ps - if you need short skis (like me!), scotty bob's won't work for you. pps - there are too many ways to not pay full retail for a pair of skis to not ...
  12. shortcut keys. try to take a moment to stretch out your fingers every now and then. sucks to be all cramped up at the end of the day!
  13. oops; too slow! :-( grivel 360's rock. mountain master's rock, too - awesome sticky rubber approach shoe!
  14. went to a spinning class last night to try it out. it was an "okay" workout but nothing like the workout i would get from doing running exercises for the same amount of time.
  15. hey, that's pretty cool. i found some names i'll be looking up shortly ...
  16. I've been pretty unimpressed with my Lowe Alpine Adrenaline jacket. Haven't tried the pants. he asked for nylon pants with full side zips that don't cost $300. that's what they are. if you pay $49 for a pair of nylon pants, you shouldn't expect $300 schoeller or goretex-quality pants.
  17. could you please share more info? size? wattage? carousel? clock? fancy one-touch buttons? thanks!
  18. bolt ladders can become rather treacherous-feeling and annoying when the bolts are not so close together *and* you're short like me. otherwise, they can be great fun!
  19. i'm thinking he meant clove hitch.
  20. ouch! is it really big enough to cook a turkey in?
  21. i had a silent partner for awhile. it was fun to use on occasion but it got to the point of being so much work that i often preferred to free solo. another story. it actually feeds okay - like db said the rope you use is going to make a difference. i was using a 9.9 which seemed about as fat as one would want to go. sometimes the clove can become tight and you will feel quite some resistance - it will basically feel like "normal" climbing with a lot of rope drag. you won't really be able to speed climb, and don't expect to be going after huge dynos while using this device (unless you feed out a bunch of rope first). until you really get your system down, definitely plan on climbing much slower than usual. the rope management part of climbing this way is rather huge.
  22. lowe alpine adrenaline pants. pms used to carry them. haven't been in there lately but i would gather jim still has them there as they are a good value item. a review: http://www.backpacker.com/article/1,2646,318,00.html
