try getting spicy hot food up here in bc. seems like they think their hot wings are "hot" just because they're cooked and have some kind of red sauce on them. and there really is fairly good mexican food in the seattle area. (definitely better than anything i could find in the southwest corner of colorado! ) that little taco trailer on the way to/from index f'ing rocks!

foraker, it's pointless of you to ask if it's pointless. if you really want to go, just go - partner or no. (it is often possible to find partners here if you're really keen to climb ... but you might want to bring your soloing setup and/or bouldering pad just in case.) also, the forecast is not pure science and spring is a volatile time of the year. last weekend it rained friday night and then produced three days of beautiful climbing weather.

imho taco time is better than taco bell (unless you're totally broke), but get some "real" mexican food - like fish tacos from taco del mar. you can even get 'em in squamish now!

i was happy to see that the new masters have sewn toe flaps. the ones on my older ones are flapping like crazy - even after trying to glue them down a few times. they obviously knew it was something they had to fix - i think i might have to call warranty on this one!

this was something i didn't realize was a bonus until i heard my leashed partners complaining about mashing their fingers on the ice. somehow, i never had that problem. j_b, there are quite a few people climbing leashless. maybe not so much in washington because there's not really any sporty ice around, but if you take a trip to ouray or other places where there is much more nice water ice and mixed climbing i think you'd be surprised. climbing leashless is nice and fast. not being tied to my tool i can leave it placed while i shake out quickly and move on with my climbing. plus that other stuff dru said.

well, i would happily make a trip down to index ... but i'm far from leading .11's. (and i know that by "NW" you meant "NW USA"! )

seems like something that should be more of a concern in a single rope system ... not that i'm that concerned. i use my halfs for ice climbing ... here falling is not an option anyway, right?

i use the roca migu (8.1). the roca website says they are 43g/m. the beal ice line is 42g/m. the mammut phoenix is even lighter - 41g/m. but who can afford mammut ropes?
