  1. Look out, here comes another 'goat post.....
  2. Another TJ's wine choice is Marchais Merlot, French and very good. Trader Joes is best by far for affordable tasty wines. Sometimes you can find good prices on beer too. TTT
  3. CD's Medical care Housing in Seattle Trekking poles... Ice screws Fees to visit parks or trailheads
  4. Has there been any report on which route they where climbing? Many climbers go overdue on Rainier without it being reported. I had a couple of friends that were stuck 10 days a few years ago on Liberty Ridge and they made it out ok. It didnt hit the news until day 9. Newstips/King5: The reason some dont like the reports is because often the cost of rescues creeps into the news and then you have Joe 6 pack asking why climbers dont pay for the rescues, and the inevitable discussion of how or why would someone go near a mountain. I remember Cam Johnson on last round of accidents pleading directly to the camera "why do people do this?" Glad you are making a attempt to get the report right. Hope these guys are ok, TTT
  5. Climbing, hiking and enjoying my new found unemployment. I haven't had time to read this whole thread, and my questions have been asked before on this thread, and coming in after 5 pages it is hard to follow.
  6. I have always wondered why Bush has almost completely forgotten about Al Quiada. They are the ones that attacked us from what I remember, not Iraq. I think saddam is evil, and we should wait until they mess up and then take action like something on a war like magnitude, or SHOW us or someone the proof if going in now. Where is the connection, and what about stirring up too many hornets nests at once?
  7. Yes, it is good, I BC ski more than hardcore climb, and a welcome addition in my book. TTT
  8. I was in the area yesterday and the avi conditions where low, and Chair looked rather sparsely covered. The snow conditions improved above 5,000'. I snowed a little, then rained then snowed (just a little) again and didn't look appealing. Good luck on finding the tool. TTT

  14. Posted by MtnGoat earlier: "Also, it has been proven that cutting taxes for middle income taxpayers is more effective at stimulating the economy than cutting the top tax payers taxes, which shifts the burden to lower income tax payers." When was this proven? And how does one shift the burden of an income tax to lower income payers, most of whom do not pay any income taxes at all, and many of whom get earned income credits, money back when they paid no income tax in the first place? By definition, a tax cut can only happen if you pay income tax in the first place, of course an income tax cut will only effect those who pay income taxes. Now if we're talking the SS/payroll tax, then that's a different story. If the Dems want to support an across the board cut there, I'm all for it. Hey MTNGoat, I said LOWER INCOME TAXPAYERS, not people who dont pay taxes. I think that all government dollar spenders should be audited and accountable, this includes the military. What I dont get is if we are having an impending war why are they trying to cut taxes to the wealthy (meaning someone else will have to pick up the tab). TTT
  15. Actually, Jules, that's incorrect. It has been shown that cutting taxes actually, INCREASES government tax revenues. Ronald Reagan proved this in the '80s when he cut tax rates and subsequent revenues increased by large margins. The more of their own money that people keep means more money in circulation in the economy buying goods and services. Actually this is partially true, we ran up a huge deficit, incurred a large debt. Also, it has been proven that cutting taxes for middle income taxpayers is more effective at stimulating the economy than cutting the top tax payers taxes, which shifts the burden to lower income tax payers. (per Lapper curve, Brookings Institute)
  16. cant we all get along? Oh wait this is spray. no hugs for you mattp, just:
  17. I, coming from a different end of the political spectrum from AlpineK, agree with what he says here. Well written, AK. Greg W Shit, I for once agree with both AK and Greg at the same time . Like Greg said well written. From the latest NY Times poll most Americans agree with this (is this still considered unpatiotic? I mean instigating a premtive stike, that can cast the mold for others to do so if they see fit in the future??) TTT

  19. Looking for a good heavy duty light weight shovel. I have a plastic one which does ok around here, but looking for a durable shovel, for heavy use, like on a gaper expedition up north. I have looked at several but interested in what other people like as opposed to what salespeople recommend sometimes. TTT
  20. Free ridgerests that are 3/4 length, I have two of these foam roll ups. PM me if you dont mind going to West Seattle to pick them up. Bill
  21. I have gotten sick before drinking out of streams, not G but something less insidious. I almost never carry a filter, and use iodine tablets. The extra taste tablets in the Aqua two bottles is really nothing more than vitamin C, so I have used vitamin C or Gatorade. I do know of a climber friend that got real sick drinking out of streams and other friends that drink out of questionable sources and never have gotten sick.
