  1. check out the Old Inn behind the big hardware store on the east end of 2nd. They had Schmit on tap and pickled eggs the last time I was in there.
  2. where's all your booze, guns, animal carcasses, beer and chainsaws? you people are sick!

    Alpinist 1

I looked at the online version. It's a helluva lot better than any of the other climbing mags. Maybe the desert spires would be considered "alpine" by gym rats or bolt clippers. Sure it's not the Himalaya but, there is the element of survival on those bigger more remote spires.

A4+R! jesus! I just soiled myself!
  5. Charlie: I was pretty freaked out as well right away. Dropped back to following harder stuff or just toproping or just leading easy routes I know I wont fall on. I've already started leading a little closer to where I was prior to the accident and decided it was one of those things where a series of failures caused the accident. And let me ask you this - Have you ever taken a whipper and had your cam explode? I didn't think so. Me neither. Nobody else I know has either. Sure it can happen, but hardly ever. Take 'er easy.
  6. If they are out there gettin crazy on some hand cracks, more power to 'em.
  7. I've heard this wine reffered to as the "two buck chuck" at a dinner party last Saturday night. It's creepy you heathens know about it. and just what in the hell is this guy supposed to be doing? -

    Mt. Persis

Dear man who believes he may already have knowledge of everything: I drove to the trailhead in October as did many puny cars. trailhead as in walk across the road and hop on the trail. The road is fixed to better condition than it was in prior to the huge ass washout, which I didn't think would ever get fixed either, it was a monster. Trailhead park pass fee's at work I guess.

Plexus - the trail starts between the waterfall and the end of the road probably about half way. As you head north from the waterfall you crest the hill and start down toward the end, the "trail" is across from the wide spot in the road, don't go to the end, although it's probably slightly closer to the end of the road than the waterfall. The begining of the trail looks nothing like a trail, just a steep dirt slope through some trees, the cairn may now be covered with snow. good luck and may God be with you.
  10. same thing on Mt. Baring.
  11. real nice guys... anyway, I enjoy looking at the gear reviews. everything is rated 4 or 5 stars. some of the reviews go something like this - I just got my new (gloves, socks, pants, rope, harness, pack) from the UPS man and it looks just like...killer. I can just picture myself on Willis Wall wearing this. It's that good. five stars from me. or some guys actually use theirs first - review: I just got back from making a snow man in my new pattagonia (socks, underwear, gloves, hat...) and man, it's REALLY nice. I can't wait to use it at Mt. Hood Medows later this week, it's bomber! Four stars cause it doesen't match my beanie.

that water fall you mention is about 1/4 - 1/2 mile south of the trailhead.

I think matt's description is right on, except the flagging is pretty sparse. right now you'll probably only be able to drive to about 2500' on the loggin road, leaving 3 miles and 1000' to walk to the "trailhead" (wide spot in the road with a small cairn) follow your nose up through the clear cut, then stick to the south side of the ridge, don't be fooled by the false summit and watchout for walking on cornices near the ridge (or what you think is the ridge). Never done it in the winter, but, probably be pretty fun. check out www.mountainwerks.org for a full trip report. don't ever try to climb out of the proctor creek drainage, that is some of the thickest brush anywhere.
  14. I was lookin for some info on WC cams and found the mutha load here: http://www.wildcountry.co.uk/frames.html
  15. stumbled on this looking for something else..........not for kids: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB18&Number=78603&page=5&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
  16. ice, rock, or slog? What level/grade are you interested in?
  17. dont forget about the $20.00 straps sold seperately. Peter, I strongly recomend you consider the stubai aluminum crampon for general mountaineering and approach. There are many options in the $100 range. like these Unfortunatly I purchased some smc's early in my climbing career, used them a couple of times and sold them to a friend who doesen't use them much. They are slow to put on and will inhibit circulation if you don't have an extreemly stiff boot. I know, I know, people used them for along time on big mountains and they work, but, the point is, there are better 'pons available for the same price. If you are determined to get the SMC's Second Ascent usually has a half dozen pairs on sale for $50ish with the straps. I never did like those strapons.
  18. that's right, that's why we need clearcuts, so there's nothing to burn!
  19. I just hope they establish a 4 wheeler trail to some of the distant crags so I don't have to walk anymore.
  20. you need to dust the bottom of your chair!
  21. what happened to Courtnay? Did we get dumped? Anywho- stacking in that manner is great for getting your neurological and nervous systems in order for pushing your limits. I agree with freeclimb's assesment that your physical gains won't be as great as if you were letting your muscles fully recover, but stacking is also important to do if you can't get out at least one day a week for actual climbing. I have trained in that manner when I can't climb and had pretty good results. I also managed to cut some weight doing that workout and think it was muscle so you may want to consider a protien supplement for right after the workout, (beer does not count).
  22. They have them here: http://www.telemark-pyrenees.com/e_index.htm then go to "end of line specials" and scoll to near the bottom $193 euros.

    CNN is CRAP

    check your email big guy
  24. getting there is the problem in these conditions, terrain below/near pan point is more apt to sliding than the snow field.
  25. Maybe you guys who need jobs could build some of these 4 wheeler trails. Working out of doors, good exercise, what more could you ask for?
