I poached a Golite Reach Jacket off of sierratradingpost last week for $32 and got it this weekend. It's arms cut way long for "reaching" over your head. On a size M from armpit to cuff it's 27". The coat's really lightweight for a hard shell (like 10oz.) according to www.promountainsports.com who sells them new for $139.00 and I think Golite has discontinued this particular jacket so you might be able to find a deal on it somewhere else. Probably comprable to the Marmot Precip for waterproofness and breathability, but at least it 's cut snug to emphasize my Krispy Kreme belly.

I think the 100k tune up has been pretty standard for a number of years, (or was it 60K) anyway, the voreteck is probably the best engine GM ever put out, but it's still lacking. Anyway, the reason I went through so many rigs was in my youth, I had more time than money and bought most of those rigs cheap, fixed them up over a year or two while I drove them and sold them or traded up. The '97 was the first new vehicle I ever bought. Still driving it. I also had a really old VW bug that kicked ass off road, it was unbelieveable until I accidentally crushed it with a friends big ole ford. It musta been jealous.

I too agree with Erik. I've driven a bunch of Ford Trucks over the years and I hate em. Maybe you should quit running crisco or whatever that organic stuff is in them. It's kinda like taking a lumberjack out to eat after work but at a vegetarian restaruant. TOFU? I treat my trucks nice and they are nice to me. I just hope you guys are ashamed of yourselves and go to confession right away. 10 hell marys each of you!

these guys have no idea what they are talking about, I'd bet they're both drunk already. I've been driving & maintaining mainly fords for 15 years now, '66 mustang, '67 bronco, '72 bronco '80 f-250, '85 bronco II, '87 ranger, '90 probe, 91 f-250, '92 explorer '95 ranger, '97 f-250 and a 2000 F-350 crew cab. Only the 67 bronco had problems with the engine exploding and that was because I "adjusted" the rocker arms a little too tight and shot an old mechanical lifter through the side of the block. I don't think the ford engines are any worse than the GM's and the main difference is the fords tend to perform more like a truck and the GM's are a little more like a heavy duty car, but won't hold up quite as good to off roading, towing and actual SUV type use.

Back on the east coast, it was always the people in SUKs who would drive too fast, tailgate, and pass when it was snowing and icing out. They were also the ones that were spun out in the ditch. People think that 4WD = 4 wheel stop. If you don't improve the friction between the tire and the road, 4WD doesn't slow down any faster than 2WD. I have seen AWD give you better control, but still doesn't help you stop. Nice going ladies, I rest my case. The next time you need to borrow your friends truck to move or some nice country folk takes the time to stop his jeep to pull your car out of the ditch at the trailhead (which prolly wouldn't happen cause you drive a car and are perfect, right?), I'd like to think you will take a moment to pause and consider, "maybe there are some nice, smart and responsible people who drive trucks and SUVs". I know it's a long shot, but worth a try. Have a nice day.

CBS: Your statement is incorrect. Hunters just prefer not to brag about shooting old and small animals, just the big huge ones. But, rest assured, we kill plenty of young, old, sick and hopefully some nice big healthy ones once in a while too. And the Wolves would take only big ones too, but, the weaker ones are much easier to chase down and eat.

So is it important what kind of vehicle idiots drive when they "almost run you over" or would it have happend if they drove a motorcycle. That's kinda like me saying "all people who drive chevy's are retards" (they are but it's not the point) what does the vehicle have to do with bad drivers? NADA!

Now there's an idea, go to a car lot and tag a whole bunch of the big bastards! That'll send a message straight to the top I tell ya! Bickford motors in Snohomish has a pile of shiny SUV's just waiting for a new bumpersticker.
-
Large rims would give you better mileage (reducing emmisions) as opposed to a smaller rim with big sidewalled tires. If it's big tires your're talking about, that's right that the rigs with big tires will be getting worse mileage (increased emmissions) although without a pretty in depth knowledge of modern engines and emmissions you're still shooting in the dark to judge a rig by it's appearance. PS: My 15 year old SUV is all scratched up and I drive it by myself with nothing in it but a Starbucks cup for at least 30,000 miles a year. 8 miles to the gallon but, it's really fast! I might put one of these stickers on it myself! (not!)

Make use of your stash of duct tape and plastic sheeting to secure your home against this SARS stuff! Better stay home or go to Index!

Toast, If you climb with out a rope it becomes much less complicated. So, can someone shed some light on kN ratings for me? Say a rope is rated for a 8.2 kN impact force. I understand that's the force it could transfer to the anchor, but then what, the rope breaks?

not to mention a completely static system

I would be cool to have a domesticated Cougar or Mountain Lion that would chase down and eat all dogs on trails. I'd be concerned about the thing going crazy and eating some kids though, back to the drawing board....

Nothing but didn't you start this thread?

I think this may be one of the biggest factors to consider when structuring the new gov in Iraq. I'd support Iraq breaking up into states as defined by tribal teritorial lines, but, that's a whole nother can of worms (line goes here, no, line goes here). Ursa - what else did you have in mind? I'm open to suggestions, but under the circumstances, I support the current "strategery" to remove Saddam by force. His son's are prepared to step into his place when he passes away. They are "reported" to be as bad or worse so no regeim change would likely have taken place for a loooooong time. It's a tough situation any way you look at it, makes Afganistan look pretty black and white.
