I am reminded of one night, several years ago, walking through a jobsite at the top of a steep hill, noticing a LARGE (4' diameter) empty spool and setting it rolling down the road. We assumed it would roll off into the ditch and maybe take out some barbwire or at best a mailbox, but, it went straight down the crest of the road about 1/4 mile and into someones yard where it came to rest in the middle of a large circle where the above ground swimming pool was now laying in a puddle of water. oops! The same friend I was with that night started a small dozer and jumped when it started moving. being small, it stopped when it a dumptruck. DAMN KIDS!

Sure, it's $225, but from what I've heard it works great. Oh, by the way, don't buy the Essenshell jacket, as the hood sucks, no way to get the thing to fit over a helmet. Otherwise, sew your own with a microfiber shell and fleece lining. You should be able to phone order one from their Dillon MT outlet store for about $180. Phone # is on the Patagucci website.

It has stopped working twice - first time fixed for free by SI, second time replaced (and I bought it used, he he). Also, the new Backcountry magazine has a review of all the better models. I have one of these guys too, it's as accurate as any, no frills and cheap. I haven't had any problem or seen any downside to mine, but, I haven't compared it to any other brands.

Any mountain only using the first edition of Becky for route info or even older or more outdated info, if that's even possible. It just seems more adventurous that way.

I like the Tungsten filled shells for blasting waterfowl, but they are kinda spendy... Brass is best for handguns and rifles, aluminum is kinda cheap and jambs easier for some reason

here's a SD 3-layer jacket for cheap: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/xq/asp/base_no.42226/str_base_no.24271,41204,42014,42016,42022,42075,42076,42077,42081,42082,42087,42182,42186,42213,42225,42226,42270,42377,42411, 42417,/header_title./page_name.prod_list_display.asp/search_type.L2~208/size1./size2./gender.0/ShowImages.yes/sq.0/cont.1/intPgNo.1/special_type./qx/product.asp I have some SD 3-layer bibs that have treated me pretty good.

The thing was to stand in a line on the rail as a train was coming, and see who could be the last one to jump off. The engineers loved this! Stoopidest thing I didn't do was jump off of one train trestle into the open boxcar filled with wood chips of a moving train below. We looked at about 4 or 5 and decided without knowing where they would stop, it would be too stoopid.

I heard Dru is a corporate, self promoting, sell-out bastard who uses slave labor in Ireland to make his slide shows!! He even displays an aparant obsession with giant squids and won't hesitate to expose you to pictures of the helpless giant squids!! He is clearly just attempting to get his greedy sponser "Gander Mountain" to give him some more gear! When will you stop? When will you have enough fame and fortune? What kind of "baked goods" are you trying to push on the kids?!

"hookey-bobing" (holding onto the rear bumper of a car while somone drives and your feet skid along) the problem arrises when you want to stop, the driver usually couldn't hear you, so often you would have to let go and hope for the best. Ruined several pairs of shoes that way. we had a friend who purhcased a van with a roof rack and a firmly attached ladder who would drive us around for hours trying to shake us off the ladder.

here's a link to: Hyalite Ice Climbing if you want some addtional info. That sucks!

quote: Originally posted by sketchfest: first stupid thing: watching a tv show about skydiving, promptly going out to the deck (2 stories high) tying a chair to my ass and jumping over the railing. second stupid thing: waking up thinking that was pretty cool and doing it again, only instead of knocking self out, end up with loose front teeth when face smashes into concrete block used as deck support and VERY bloody nose. so was it like a lazy-boy chair or what?

using waaaaaaaaaaay too much gasoline to start bonfires. bb gun war with an opponent who had an "adult" type gun trying to kick the neighbor kid off of a tractor via a ropeswing (only 4 stitches) shooting fireworks at cars traveling on HWY 2, the last one belonging to a State patroler who fortunatly didnt have the lungs to catch us TPing a friends girlfriends house for the 4th night in a row, (fortunatly we shaving creamed the windshield of her dads van and he couldn't see where he was going) at about age 12 walking with a friend who thought it was funny to flip off high schoolers driving by. (Learned how to take a punch though) jumping off of the roof deciding to grease the bearings on my bicycle and getting grease all over the coaster brake (no hand brake) then hoping on said bike, riding up a big hill to see how grease helps lower resistance and promptly turning around and riding down said hill into the garage door. taking unauthorized rides in various boats, white water rafting in a flat bottom aluminum boat with shovels for oars. Top roping with 5/8" rope taken off of dad's boat (static), ouch! 4 wheeling with drunk guys in the back of the truck who jump out when they think they are gonna die and they always seem to jump off of a big steep embankment or into the side of a stump or onto a sharp stick or a dry creekbed. shooting arrows at each other as "ninja training" and the arrow roulette. That might be the single stupidest thing right there. "yeah, wait until it's dark, 6 or 7 guys laying in the yard, one fires an arrow straight into the sky...." first knife experiences.(nuff said)

quote: Originally posted by crazyjz: I just recieved the latest AAJ, and there was a lengthy article about a new route on Baffin Island by Jim Beyer. Is this guy totally nuts or what? He has a three year old, and I can't think that she could have a more messed up dad. Why did he reproduce? He appartently has multiple close calls with death, and doesn't care about dying. He is more Twight than Twight. You sound a little jealous ( God knows I am) As a father I see your point, but, really who's to say what's acceptable risk for someone else. I know people who think I am an irresponsible father for climbing at all and I am climb like a wus!

I really like my petzl as well, but Camp makes a better alpine type harness with the same buckle system. Unfortunately I didn't figure that out unitl after laying out the cash for the super duper purple petzl.

This would be based on something called freedom, which entails something else, known to many as self restraint. Do you act this way in your private life too, expecting others to do for you what you lack the restraint to do for yourself? Why do you want to know about my private life? Your coment above is just plain mean. Don't be such a grumpasorus just because a moderator deleted several pages of your self-righteus political crap! I am annoyed that when I check the website lately, the majority of the posts are about political "stuff" and have NOTHING to do with climbing, which is what I believe the website is about. MORE CLIMBING - LESS POLITICS Thank you for your time, I gotta go to the welfare office now.

I'd recomend a warmer bag and a solid tent. I was at Costco over the weekend and noticed they have a 0 degree down bag by Kelty for $80.00. I don't know how much it weigh's, but the box listed 2 lbs of fill, so probably around 3 lbs.

quote: Originally posted by STORER: My friend came up with a good idea for a cheap bivy bag. For those of you that don't know what "house wrap" is, it's a breathable but wind/water resistance "paper like" material used to wrap houses that are being built. You can probably score a piece of house wrap by going to a construction site and asking the contractor for a piece. You probably only need a piece 7' X 4'. Fold the piece in half and staple/bond the bottom and part way up the side. The idea was to make a bivy sack for a couple of bucks, so I know it isn't as good as an Outdoor Research bag for $100+. What do you guys think? Steve I have worked with that stuff in construction and it is bomber. Ask the contractor for a 10' piece of the tape you get with the rolls to seal the seam properly. I'd venture a bet that it would come in at around 1lb too. Seems to me Willstrickland or someone met a guy who made a back pack and bivi sack out of that suff for the Appalachian trail and it worked ok, but, you'd probably be performing major repairs on it after each use. Definetly test it out in your backyard before going up Mt. Rainier with it. Let me know how it goes if you do, I thought about doing the same thing, but wimped out and purchased one at MEC.

Way to get after it Rob! Some of those photo's are excellent, but your partner looks grumpy in most of them. Did you make him carry the beer or something? Good call going east of the crest, that weather you saw on Stevens was in the mountains around here all day Saturday.

I'm not really a boulderer, but there is only one significant (big) boulder at Zekes boulder. I am sure there could be more in the area, but much of it is private property. Get out there and wack those bushes young man, you'll find em if they are there!

check out these guys Mr. Parker. http://www.cands.net/harnessintro.html I like the full strength spectra gear loops and general crazyness.
