  1. I typically don't get permits, I pay enough taxes, parking fee's, entrance fee's.... Say no to the man! But, you should keep in mind some area's have permit systems in place to limit the impact to fragile or previously decimated camps and even if you don't get a permit, you should make an attempt to honor the limits and seek alternatives* if it's a busy time. *Bivy somewhere else.
  2. Also a good option for sketchy pitons in the mountains and aid routes. Make sure and use one for those duct taped hook placements

    Which 4WD SUV?

I'm gonna find an old ford f-250 that get's about 6 mpg with 44" super swampers and drive around Seattle laying an oil slick and smoke screen with roofing nails falling off the tailgate so you puny yuppies will really have something to whine about. Maybe drag some smoldering trees behind it for effect. Gargle butt gravy eyeasses! Someone signed me up for recieveing propoganda from the Sierra Club by the way. I send back used oil filters in the return envelopes.

  7. That also reminds me of an appropriate story for the thread. After a tough day of skiing the deep and looking good me and my buddy (we were both 15 ok) retired to his parents rented condo place. Each of us laying on our own beds in the same huge pitch black bedroom talking about all the chicks we were gonna score with I felt a big old booger just needing to be set free. So I stick my finger up my nose and get a hold of him, haul his slimy ass out and promptly flick him into the darkness. My buddy stops mid sentance and says, "What the fuck?" I say "what?" He says "something slimy just fell off of the ceiling and onto my lip" I start giggleing with anticipation and say, "what do you think it is?" He mumbles "I don't know but turn on the light" So I turn on the light and discover my errant buggar had some how landed on his lower lip. I started laughing and after a brief inspection he figured out what it was. His dad came in to see what the ruckus was and almost shit himself laughing so hard. He sought revenge by pantsing me in the lift line the next day.

If you ever rear-end me, I'll sue you for all your worth and get you thrown in jail for life for attempted murder. Then you'll find out all about rear-ending...

You sure seem like a tough guy flipping off soccer moms with a back seat full of kids. Flip off my wife someday and you'll either find out how tough you really are or how tough your car really is.

  14. Hey, I learned to climb from looking at a Black Diamond catolog so don't tell me what can't be done by reading!
  15. for others interested in avalanche stuff, check out this page of links. I think the Gallatin Natnl. Forest Avvy website may be the best I've seen. I know Doug Chabot is one of the foremost avalanche researchers alive and is highly regarded. check it out: http://www.mtavalanche.com/articles/index.shtml
  16. I was kiddin about Drury, I scoped it from HWY 2 as we drove by it recently. Thanks for the info, hopefully I'll get to use it before it warms up.
  17. Integral Designs is making some comprable bags too. www.integraldesigns.com
  18. Thanks for the TR. It appears from your report, you were able to do the approach & climb in a day. How long did it take you to do the approach (to the base of the couloir) in those fine, crunchy conditions?
  19. Another option would be to get a pair of Lannex double's from www.acmeclimbing.com for $139 Use the doubles for technical climbing and a single strand for glacier and low - mid fifth climbs. Thats my next rope(s). If I were to pick one single strand it would probably be in the 9.4- 9.8 mm range, dry treated and at least 60m. But, lotsa people have slogged glaciers with a 10.5mm x 50m (myself included) no problemo. Hope that helps.
  20. Thanks Jim, guess I'll just hunt for antlers/trophys now. (when monkey's fly outa my butt)
  21. Yeah, he says "water ice" not alpine ice. I wonder if Drury Falls came back "in".
  22. Hey Alex, how 'bout spillin the beans on where one could find some "reliable" WI around here currently. What do you know of?
