    Devils Thumb

Any cc.commers ever climbed it? Friend is going there in July and looking for 1st hand beta on the area as opposed to the usual sources.
  2. quote: Originally posted by miker: OK, I wanted to ask this under a new post as the other one is getting a wee bit long. So I am leaving tonight and will be at JTree Saturday thru Tuesday, but it is gonna be chilly and maybe even a little wet . Any suggestions as to what to climb in the cold? I know Indian Cove and the lower entrance are at lower altitudes and are a little warmer, but anything specific which will get the morning sun so I don't freeze off me fingers? I'll let everyone know how the trip went next week. Climb on. miker Indian Cove- Pixie Stick/Silent Scream area gets morning sun. OK Corral, Feudal wall etc get sun most of the day. Other stuff - basically anything SE facing. echo cove (stick to what, popes crack etc) is sheltered and sunny, as i recall.
  3. 1) if it was a German product they would never have found that it reduced rope strength. 2) dont pee on your rope, although soaking them in gas or "coca cola" is fine... (what about pepsi?) 3)I dont mark my mid point and i dont have a problem 4) just cut the rope in half and tape it together again with duct tape. TOTALLY SAFE UIAA APPROVED

I guess several people have run into this guy. He's famous for mooching food and camp spots, sandbaging climbs he wants s top rope on, and eyeing young girls. Anyone else climb with this guy? No, I was referring to the W in Fred W Beckey! But dont call him Wolfgang cause he hates that name! Probably related to growing up German in American prior to WWII.
  5. For those who didnt know, here is Canada's 100 highest. http://www.bivouac.com/HeightList.asp?rq=Canada I guarantee you no one has climbed all 100 of these yet if you are looking for a challenge. I think one or two are unclimbed, still, and Teddy was only FA'd in 2000.

  7. I learned all my cross posting thread drifting skills from pope. The guy starts threads about sport climbing ettiquite in the Mt St Helens section, and discussed eating sausage in the newbies section. yay Pope! we would make you alpine buddy of the week if you hadn't already been it 3 times or something.

  9. The Tomahawk Restaurant in North Van (by the Edge climbing gym) is the ultimate source for carbo and protein and, hell, fat loading. Order the Mixed Grill if you are one of those guys who only likes to eat once a week. The Cannabis cafe is closed down so look for "Blunt Bros, a Respectable Joint" in the same block. Or go hang out with skateboarders on the art gallery steps. Or visit "puff" pipe co. just off granville on robson. or...

I think I will go out and chop your next sport project for fun. Man, we missed you! Welcome back under whatever name. More of this would be good. Otherwise see you over at alpi****te.com or evcen Squamish/Lworth/Smith Ray.

    67 online

You know, that record of 67 people online is almost a month old! Ok everyone who reads this, plan on being online at noon tomorrow (Friday) and lets bust that record - get 100 people online or something.
  16. Provincial Parks in Bc just hire contractors to collect fees and change TP in toilets at drive-in Parks campgrounds. Sort of like campground hosts at 8-Mile except they dont live there all day but just show up a few times a day. If you hike into Garibaldi, for instance, a real live Parks Ranger is gonna come by Black Tusk Meadows to get your camping fee. Same at Kain Hut in the Bugaboos. Those guys aint privatized (yet... bastard government ).

    New Route on Mt. Spears

judging by the response to my posting anyone approaching will have to bushwack through a bunch of hardwoods to get to Spears.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Rodchester: Good dialoge here... "Beckwith's source for the passage about selling the "sky, broad vistas, and fragrant flowers" is Terry Anderson, who, according to Scott Silver, is an advisor to Pres. Bush." Does that mean that this whole thing is Anderson's vision? Big stretch? Hmmm. Crying wolf? This type of name calling and bashing tactic will only serve to alienate many who are against the Fee Demo and many other similar programs. Who is spreading propaganda here? Rodchester, are you suggesting Carlos Buhler has something to do with this?

  21. what about mikealpine, alpine'teryx, Dan Alpine, allpineson, Peter Alpine, sexual alpine, (or should that be alpine chocolate), Capt. alpine, willalpineland, alpinegirl, alpope and Dwaylpiner???
  22. quote: Originally posted by slothrop: Beckwith's source for the passage about selling the "sky, broad vistas, and fragrant flowers" is Terry Anderson, who, according to Scott Silver, is an advisor to Pres. Bush. Anderson is a leading proponent of enviro-capitalism -- "doing good while doing well". He runs a think tank in Bozeman, MT called the Political Economy Research Center (PERC), "The Center for Free Market Environmentalism". A dubious marriage of ideas, if there ever was one. Not necessarily dubious in all cases. Market forces can lead to environmental choices if supported through appropriate lehgislation. Look at MEC or the Green Buildings Initiative or environmental certification issues. All cases where free market consumer choice is able to choose green options and is doing so , as a result of enabling legislation. For an example of how it doesnt work look on the legiuslative end, at the differing fuel economy standards for cars vs. "light trucks" aka gas guzzling SUVs.
