allthumbs Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 Just received my latest REI Holiday shopper. Now isn't this just the cat's ass? I definitely want to whip up some smoothies next time I'm out there. Quote
iain Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 perfect for the shrooming road trip through the Canyonlands. Quote
AlpineK Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 Yeah I saw that back a while ago. I tried to blot it out of my memory; but there it is. Quote

greenfork Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 At only 5 LBS, it is the ideal blender to take on those multi day trips into the Pickets. Quote
wayne Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 I just saw the blender on the Mountaineers "50 Essentials List" Quote
lemon Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 North Face makes a pretty cool carbon fiber and titanium model. 'Bout $99 I think. Quote
Lambone Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 We got one from our Aunt as a wedding gift!!! Wooohooo! Quote

greenfork Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 yes, a shake is always good. especially since i am on this diet: http://www.dyets.com/710079.htm Quote
iain Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 I am trying a vanilla coke right now for the first and last time. Quote
MntnrMichael Posted December 5, 2002 Posted December 5, 2002 Is it that bad? Talk about an industry with no growth; unless you come out with a new flavor that is GOOD, soft drink companies seem relatively flat. The two times a month that I drink soda, it usually a Pepsi. Quote
JoshK Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 Yeah, vanilla coke is ass, but I have to hand it to coke, at least it isn't pepsi blue...jeebus, what a mistake. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 But ... but ... Pepsi Blue is extreme, and, and, and alternative, and, and "the kids" just loved it in the focus group! Â Bleah! Regular Coca Cola on ice, with a lemon wedge or two is the only way to go. Quote
rr666 Posted December 6, 2002 Posted December 6, 2002 I can't believe people still read those things REI sends out. Mine go directly into the recycling bin, just for reasons like this!!! It's all CRAP Quote
snoboy Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 at least it isn't pepsi blue...jeebus, what a mistake  On sale for $CND 0.49 at my local grocer. LMAO, I guess it didn't sell too well. Quote
Dru Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 Maybe it is Jon and Timmy's gumnutblender? Â Can you run it of your Met5 jacket battery? Quote
allison Posted December 7, 2002 Posted December 7, 2002 Please do not consider the below a defense of REI. Â We are not their target audience, people! This is not your parents' REI any more. They are just another retailer. If you want the goods, go to Feathered Friends, Marmot, Jim Nelson shop, Barrabes, MEC, or any number of other specialty outdoor retailers to get your gear. Â By not stocking the stuff people like us want, REI is doing its part to keep these other retailers in bidness. It would be great to be able to go there and get all the stuff you neeed in one place, but this is not the sort of business that REI is anymore, at least for anyone who gets out more than a few times a year. Â I *have* noticed, however, that REI Brand stuff is getting a little cooler and better than it once was, though it's still too expensive. Fortunately, MEC Brand stuff is even cooler for the most part, and is a reasonably short road trip away from Seattle. Quote
ocom Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 Â check out the contents of the rei playset..... Â Danny First: Born To Hike $20.00 Item 691100 Quote
Jens Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 I like REI. Â The store is close to home, easy exchanges, nice people. Yes and even, some of their products are quite good- sometimes the very best. Here is a case in point and a little chestbeating to boot. My friend just bought three brand new pairs of gloves with the intention of "demoing" them all and returning the two he didn't like. We just took a road trip to hyalite last week. I wore the rei brand gloves leading up a soaking WI5 pillar. The rei gloves performed better than any of the other gloves any of the four of us had on our trip. We probably had at least 2 dozen gloves with us (north face, mountain suckware, marmot, columia, and black diamond, etc). Plus guys, much of our gear is made in the same sweatshops regardless of the brand name. Quote
Beck Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 I was at the flagship store Thursday night, it was actually cool, ran into Pete Whittaker and got to talk to him about a rescue we were both involved with, then saw a cool slideshow of a lady who was skitouring in Greenland....beautiful pictures, great story. I noticed on their sales floor on the way out, there were no tents set up. REI must figure people don't use tents in the winter. Also, that winter sports flyer, couldn't find AT or telemark gear... It also had a conspicous absence of winter safety gear. As if the advertising team figured "avalance" avoidance equipment would kill sales with it's dangerous connotations... Quote
SEF Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Speaking of blenders, I ran into this . Quite the chick magnet in campgrounds, so says the manufacturer. Â It must undoubtably be on Trask's wish list. Maybe REI would special order him one. Quote
