salmon and upland birds

The silvers are in the Sky, but they're suffering lock jaw. On the 16th of October season opens for the dogs(chum salmon)on the Stilly. Loads of fun to play with. They cook up and smoke well if very little color to them.

Anyone else been out there fishing or upland bird hunting? If so lets hear about it. And before I get all the shit from the anti killers...FUCK YOU. hahahahahaha [laf]

Gee, great idea! Systematically murdering them and remorselessly stealing their land and then kicking them off of it wasn't enough. Clearly instead of removing superfluous dam(n)s to save salmon, we should punish some of our nation's remaining Native Americans for trying to eat.

This is called Manifest Destiny. We, the settlers of the United States of American, were given this land thru God's providence. The end result was unfortunate but the "right has the might" given by God's word.

Taking the "no think" approach to religion and history, eh?

The solution is easier than all of this bullshit.

Turn over the commercial salmon fisheries of Oregon, Washington and California to the Indians. They tend to sell the majority of "their" half of the fish, anyways. The remainder can then be tended to maintain the much more lucrative and rewarding sport salmon fishery. That way, the stores stay stocked, the Indians have real jobs, the sport guys don't have to compete with the gillnetters for allotments, and the people can get a taste of what a salmon-rich river is really like. Maybe enough to slow down the hammerlock on habitat degradation.

Having grown up in a fishing town, with multiple generation of family members in the business, I can state with certainty that closing out the last few holdouts in the commercial salmon fishery would be doing them, and their children, a big favor. Given the value of those boats anymore, it wouldn't even cost the Feds much to close them out.

It's nice that the ocean decided to feed the guys a little better over the last few years. The lower Columbia has been seeing some nice fish. Too bad we're about a year off from the next downturn...

Lower Columbia estuary ducks are the best! They've been eating ocean critters and briny eelgrass, giving them a rich, oily sea-soaked flavor. Smoked duck and Scotch... that'll cure ya' of what ails ya'...

Oh yeah, one other thing - I found you've got get those Silvers on the Sky and the Skagit within the first day that they push in off the bubble. They get real close-mouthed after a day or so, I never figured that out. [Frown]

They should be stacked up like cordwood below the hatchery on the Cascade about now. Good luck SS... I say get 'em with a spear. [Mad]

Spent last weekend up on Deschutes. Biked in about 9 miles from the mouth. Steelie fishing was slower than last year. Not sure if the fish moved up after the rain last week or not. We landed a few on my favorite wet fly off the swing. My buddy landed a nice 20lb. Chinook too. This weekend, my Dad and bro are flying in for opening day of pheasant. Will hunt pheasant and chuckar in Heppner, then we are heading to Tillamook to fish for Chinook off my buddy's boat out of Garibaldi on Monday. My roomate went down to Sawyer's Rapids on the Umpqua y'day morning and hooked into 5 Coho. One was a hatchery and two others he landed were wild. My other friend hooked into a nice Chinook that broke him off in the rocks. Fishing is prime! Duck season isn't too far off either! Waiting for my friend to fill his elk tag and we will be eating like Kings all winter long! [chubit]

Yeah, but sometimes that means they are eating snails and other fishy stuff, that can make the meat taste a little off too. I've had really good ducks and bad ones come from marshy or brackish waters. My favorite are Montana Spring Creek ducks where they have been feeding on watercress in super clean water for a month before heading south!Love duck jerky too, although since moving out here, haven't shot enough ducks to justify it. Still learning areas, and not having access to private land can be difficult. Am trying to get more out on the Willamette this season. Maybe we should swap some game recipes? My great grandfather was a grand national trap shooter who used to hunt with Ty Cobb. They coleected a whole bunch of game recipes between there friends in Va., Ga, and their Maryland decoy carver friends back in the 1930s and early 40s. They also put some good recipes for seafood, shellfish, and crabs. My favorite is corncakes and kidney stew (use deer, or veal for substitue). Nothin' like southern cookin'!

In Oregon or WA? I do not know if he drew a bull tag. His brother is an elk guide in Colorado and Wy, which is where he lives in the summers working for YNP. Are those Roosevelt Elk up your way or RM elk? I've never shot an elk. Only whitetail in the SE. My Dad was mainly a duck, goose, and dove hunter. I am also a rabid turkey hunter. Love deep fried wild turkey in peanut oil! Damn, I am hungry and just ate lunch!

RM Elk in Oregon (south of John Day, forget the unit). It's a family thing (uncle has the unit wired), so I hunt down there. I'm hungry, too. I'll be feasting on elk summer sausage at the Rope-Up!!! [HORSECOCK]

We have Roosevelt Elk on the Peninsula, RM everywhere else.

Nice troll, by the way, and it even worked!

They make enough money from casinos and other tax free shit to buy from the grocery store like anyone else. Those are just a long lost arguments that only work on the uneducated anyway.

[laf][laf] How much time have you spent on the Rez, white boy? Doesn't matter what kind of degree you have, I'll wager that when it comes to Indian Country you're pretty ignorant.

There is plenty of over fishing going on. Check out the Skokomish on a weekend. Cars line both sides of the road bumper to bumper for a half mile. People are nearly elbow to elbow in the river. It is pretty rediculous. My friends go alot. They say including themselves, people are snagging most of the fish.
