krazy_1 Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 ok so i have a question...... i agree that ski/trekking poles would be great on the steep decents... my thing is that i would go down full mogual ski style, so do the expandable poles hold weight like a ski pole? all i would need is for that thing to collapse and break my other freaking arm! any thoughts? Quote
erik Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 i like my poles..i have some tech ti ones....you should see the ladies flock to me in the b/c when they seem me floating down the trail with all my hi-tech bitchin shizz...... but also use some life link collapable ski poles too sometimes...(cannot always find all my shizz) so yes ski poles work both ways...though i do have a scar on my back from me collapsing on one of my collapsable...oops....wemember kidz ski in control!!! krazy_1 Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 this comes from the guy that tells me i need a walker...... by the way erik, any word on that? Quote
bobinc Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 The extendable poles seem to take abuse just like the fixed length ones. The garden variety BD poles are better, IMHO, than the expensive Lifelink poles with the internal cams: less to go wrong and cheaper. Quote

ScottP Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Ditto the walking on snow thing... and Poles add a new dimension to standing glissades. Quote
chucK Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 yeah ditto the walking on snow thing. They can help keep you from postholing so badly (when you don't have snowshoes). I just use my regular 20-year-old ski poles for that. Pain in the ass if you gotta stow 'em though (you can't). Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Xtra ski poles at the notch on the NR Stuart Free! Quote
Bronco Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 I'd be interested if anyone has any tips on the best way to attatch old style ski poles to your pack. I imaginge you'd be better off carying them like you would a pair of skis, straight up over your head. Except for ice climbing, then carry them sideways? Quote
allison Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Chepe, you were being blackmailed. If you don't play nice I'm going to tell everyone about how Ray threw up all over my mom at our wedding.....oh, whoops, never mind. Quote

Did you get those stickers in the mail yet or what? Far be it from me to direct this thread! I was just putting some paint on some trim and thinking, "well, of course, some like 'em and some don't, guess I'll have to try it and make up my own mind." So, I have enough info, thanks. I'll give my old Ramer adjustable ski poles a try on dry ground sometime, if I can find the old pink lycra to go with them. I did get the stickers, thanks Caveman. Immediately applied to all my vehicles, and have already had a half dozen conversations with people who no idea what the NWFP even was. Now, if only we could get jordop's avatar to sing: Big Bottom Big Bottom Talk about mudflaps My Girl's gottem How could I leave this behind? Quote
allison Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 K1, I don't care....matter of fact my butt isn't big, any more than I am a tramp....or was once married to Ray! Laugh as much as you want...in fact that reminds me of a Flipper song..... HaHaHaHaHa hOhOhOhOho HEHEHEHEHE Quote
allthumbs Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Who's laughing? Perplexed maybe, but not laughing. You're from New York, right? Quote
Off_White Posted September 19, 2002 Author Posted September 19, 2002 Well, I'm laughing, there's some pretty funny stuff in here for a gear beta request, enough to get the thread moved to spray! You're really on a roll today Allison. Quote
allthumbs Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Allison, I flip you a lot of shit. Hope you know it's all in fun (at least for me) and nothing personal. I don't want you thinking I'm a big meanie or something. Peace Quote
