olyclimber Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 ....The skier was with a group at the 13,180-foot level in the Upper Nisqually Glacier when the person skied into a crevasse and fell about 100-150 feet down, said Patty Wold with Mt. Rainier National Park. from katu.com Quote
DPS Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Does anybody know if this is Loren/CascadeClimber's group?: http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1014856/1_5_day_Rainier_this_wknd#Post1014856 Quote
ryland_moore Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Why would they not have had any rescue gear with them? Relying on an AAI group to perform the rescue? Hopefully there is more to the story so I will hold off any critiquing until more of the story is known. Hopefully, the skier is ok. Quote

ScaredSilly Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Bad ending: http://www.katu.com/news/local/121585699.html RM: It was a party of four skiers/climbers. They may or may not have had gear to haul someone out who was only slightly injured. My guess they were unroped and the skier went in hard and obviously had considerable injuries. At that point additional help would be necessary. Quote
cms829 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Glad your safe Loren. RIP Tucker and condolences to family, friends, and the climbing community Quote

TheNumberNine Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 First death of the season... Sad sad news. Heavy snow conditions can really mask the danger of those lurking crevasses. Rest in peace, Tucker. Quote
