But not on wall bivys, because after the "we could be in a bar bit" Someone just says "Hey, we are in a bar...the Crusty Butt Saloon" and whips out the stash of King Cobra/Guiness/Boddingtons/Old English.

"Don't trust the webbing you stole from a rappell station to hold a huge whipper."

"If it can get stuck-it will get stuck."

"Rapping off a bollard is free- it only costs about a year of your life."

"You might live but at least I will die with a complete rack" (this last quote by John Baldwin, Coast Mt. ski guru, as he removes his friends rap anchor and begins downclimbing)

I use this one on my mother all the time: "better to be in the mountains thinking about god than to be in church thinking about the mountains.".....Oh yeah: "sport climbing is niether."

Press on: nothing in the world can take the place of perserverance.

Talent will not; nothing is more common then unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not;unrewarded genieus is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistance and determination alone are omnipotent.

Press on!

"You don't need a rope for that route"

"I'm an experienced mountaineer"

"Oh yeah, I can tell you all about that route. Done it tons of times."

"Say, would you guys mind if I tied in on your rope for your summit push? I'm getting a bit too nervous about these crevasses to be soloing."

"Naah, this rock is totally solid."

"Cotton kills, but I'd rather be a good looking corpse than wear polyester."

"Endeavor to perservere". Chief Dan George to Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales. He might have been quoting old Calvin himself, as the quote was attributed to the President of the United States during the old Indian's visit to Washington. We can now see that the Native Americans simply lacked perserverance and about 100,000 reinforcements.

Interesting comment from someone who also said: "As a tradition its existense is at best tenuous... Why do we need it to be part of a climbing "tradition"?

(Not that you made the original quote, or even live by it or whatnot)
