archenemy Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I went and tele skied and all I got was this bruise. Ugly Uglier There must be an easier way down the mountain... Quote
foraker Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 That's what you get for trying to ski the K-12. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 That doesn't look good. There must be an easier way down the mountain... There is AT rules tele sucks Quote
archenemy Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 That doesn't look good. The bruise is bad too, huh? Quote
Sherri Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Yowch. Reminds me of a clothing store sign I passed coming home from a particularly rough Leavenworth trip last year. It read: "SPORTS HIRTS." Truer words have never been misspoken. Quote
archenemy Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 Funny. True and funny. At least it doesn't hurt so much during--mostly after. That puts tele one notch above crack climbing on the old comfortometer. Quote
archenemy Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 So if I go out wearing just my crack gloves and bruises, I'll meet some great dirtbags, right? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Is this some kind of sadomasochistic prOn thread? Told you to go Dynafit. If it's any consolation, I'm a telier, because I can't parallel worth a damn for some reason. The first time I bought a lift ticket, I counted: 200 falls. My whole body looked like your leg. Any way; AT, snowboard, cafeteria tray, glissading on your back head first, is an easier way down the mountain. Edited March 20, 2007 by tvashtarkatena Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Any way; AT, snowboard, cafeteria tray, glissading on your back head first, is an easier way down the mountain. I haven't tried the cafeteria tray yet or the snowboard. Quote

selkirk Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 CC.com cafeteria tray races? Alpental next weekend? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Cafeteria trays are the fastest way down...to the ER. Quote
motomagik Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Suck it up, like they say "If it was easy, it'd be called "snowboarding"". Quote
Knottygirl Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Suck it up, like they say "If it was easy, it'd be called "snowboarding"". i guess that's why we (boarders) are always the last ones on the mountain at the end of the day i actually ride primarily with tele skiers Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I telied primarily with boarders. Terrain parks used to rock...now I'm so out of practice they just kick my sorry ass. Quote

You spent too much time resting and not enough time "riding" Quote

mythosgrl Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 One time my boyfriend saw a boarder sitting on the slope and thought the girl was hurt... then when he approached her he realized she was on her cell phone. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I'm surprised she wasn't smoking a pipe. Quote
counterfeitfake Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Over the weekend I noob tele'd at Whistler for 3 days in the rain. Early onset dementia. Quote

Jim Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hey - if it were easy it would be called snowboarding! Now you're going to be even slower to the bar to buy a round. Quote
PeterC Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I've been tele skiing for ~6yrs now. At first it sucked and I was always bruised. I kept at it, though, sure that once I got the hang it'd be awesome. When I got better but it still wasn't awesome I bought more gear, convinced that was my problem. That helped a bit, but I still get tired a lot faster than I did on skis or a snowboard and I still crash lots more whenever the snow is suboptimal (which thankfully never happens in the NW). Since AT boots and dynafit bindings weigh about the same as modern tele gear but have the advantage of RELEASING, have ready-made ski crampons, and take much less energy and skill to use, I wonder why anyone would learn to tele? It definitely feels cooler to do nice turns, but telemarking just seems contrived to me these days - like climbing a route w/ one hand behind your back... Comments? Quote
