ryland_moore Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Hey John, if you are going to make a nice poster with sponsors names on them for the Ice Festival, you may want to spell the companies' names correctly!!!! Or at least check for typos before sending stuff to publications like Willamette Week...... Have fun. I will be at a wedding in new Haven, CT so will not be able to attend. Where is that drytooling pic from under the bridge? Quote
John Frieh Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006  Good catch ryland! Scott! You're fired! Just as soon as you make me another one  What can I say... we did like 9 revisions of that poster and not one of us caught it... good eye man!  Revision 10 is up... let me know if you find any more errors  It looks like we spelled it right on rei.com Quote
BillA Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Oh yeah, are people going to have to pay for a daypass to get into the PRG, or is it totally free? Quote

Maxtrax Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I'll hopefully be attending. Depending on who I can get to come with me I might be pming some of you guys about carpooling from seattle. Quote
BendGirl Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 we're from Bend....Where and what is this about? Is it really on ice, or rock? Would it be worth the drive over and skipping a day at Smith? Can someone give details and directions? Including costs. Â BendGirl Quote
vert Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 no ice, no rock- plastic and "styrofoam??" should be fun plus you will get to see and/or try modern tools for free. Quote

Except I said I'd be at Beacon. Gotta show up and say hi to a few folks (like Gary Rall and the hound though)  You OK if I go do real climbing and then come by for the free beer and social hour?  What time you done?  God I'm an ass -sorry.  ps, Oly, without the multitudes, everyones climbing experince should be higher, try not to sound so hurt. In fact most people coming are coming only for the beer!  And the whole thing is a fundraiser for the Access Fund... you can feel good about that can't you?  Gary is kicking us out at 10 pm Quote

syklone Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 John, are the DT routes going to be TR or lead? Are people going to need lead/belay cards from the PRG? Quote
Chaps Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 TR. No need for lead/belay cards  PRG employee "Smokey McWeede" talking to late, drunk registrant for PDX Ice Fest  "I'm sorry Mr.Steve-House-Who-Climbed-Nanga-Parbat-And-Shit...  We don't allow climbing above 8ft without certification that you are a competent climber. Don't worry though, I can check ya out real quick.  Here.  Hold this Gri-Gri."  Quote

BillA Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 So is Gary really going to allow crampons on the carpet or is it going to be more of a rock shoe/ice tool deal? I vote crampons. Quote
John Frieh Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Rock shoes for the comp but bring your boots as we will have foam ice for you try out crampons and/or boots (La Sportiva and Vasque on hand). Quote

syklone Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Rock shoes for the comp  Booo, I want pons. I'm sure that you pushed hard for them John, and Gary just said no. Quote
NYC007 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 sounds good John, I am always where there are twins givin away for free.. Quote
pms Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 This looks like fun. Count me in. A chance to try out the new gear, and hear stories of the hardest dry-tool route in the world. John, do you know about gut-hooks? Jim Nelson Quote
John Frieh Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 John, do you know about gut-hooks? Jim Nelson  I haven't... unless you are referring to some girls I have dated Just kidding!  Looking forward to it Jim! Quote
billcoe Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 you know about gut-hooks? Â Â Jim: "It's a one-piece masterpiece for the fine art of field dressing those critters so unlucky as to cross your path." Â Picture strangly not available at most fine climbing websites. Quote
layton Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 John, what do we need to bring? Harness, ATC, Shoes, Boots, Poons, Tools, Rope, Nothing?? Will there be punch and pie? Quote
John Frieh Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 If you just plan on just hanging out bring yourself, some cash if you plan on entering the raffles, a happy face and an extra liver for all the . If you have sent an email to pdxicefestival@gmail.com then you are already entered in the raffle for the 9.8 70m Monster. If you have not sent an email yet and wouldn't mind a new rope I would encourage you to do so!  If you plan on climbing bring: a harness, helmet, rock shoes and ice tools (though you can always just use the demo tools). Chalk bag would be wise but I'll let you decide that one  If you plan on demoing some crampons (BD and Petzl will have all their crampons there) and/or boots (Vasque and La Sportiva will have some boots there) bring either your boots or plan on using some of the demo boots for the crampon demo. Regardless bring a pair of mountaineering socks... unless you climb in white tube socks.  If you plan on competing make sure you bring an excuse for why you got your butt kicked in case you do  And being that frankly a surprising number of females have preregistered for this event... I'd say more than are on this website... a clean shirt and a shave might not hurt  See you all there! Quote
