AlpineK Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 try here there are about 20 bazillion other threads on the route here too.
chucK Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Yeah here's a link that'll get you started surfing on the wave of information that cc.com has to offer infinite bliss
crackers Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 How about a sticky for this? There seems to be somebody asking for beta on the route with their second or third post every other week...I'm sure those who are answering today will get more annoyed with each request for the same information.
chris Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 How about a sticky for this? But then someone will get pissed that CC.com is tacitly supporting IB's very existence instead of railing for its destruction, but willing to ignore similar multi-pitch sport routes elsewhere in Washington...so let's not.
pope Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 But then someone will get pissed that CC.com is tacitly supporting IB's very existence... Does somebody believe otherwise?
ivan Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 cc.com is like buddha - he doesn't exist but if he does we should fawk'n kill'em!
JosephH Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Yep, count me one of the people that thinks ignorant bliss should be completely eradicated as a community service and effort. Any site making a topo or beta available on the abortion is just embarrassing itself.
Choada_Boy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ivan, Joseph: Just interested, not trying to flame, but have either of you climbed it? Is it really that bad? Or is it just the thought of a multi-pitch sport climb in the cascades? What about Sysiphus?
matt_m Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 yawn - the route's there - I've climbed it, liked it and no it's not a "sport route". I don't think there should be a sticky - people who want to climb it should AT LEAST have to put in the effort to use the damn search function - there's plenty o' info when you use that.
JosephH Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Nope, don't need to - it is by definition an alpine sport route and you don't want me near it. If I get on it won't be there afterwards. Ditto for any such route.
Choada_Boy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 In the words of a great man: Talk - Action = Zilch
Off_White Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 And on the otherhand, I appreciate Joseph's restraint, which shows more concern for climbing as a whole. Bolt wars are ugly civil war affairs that tend to damage all climbers relationships with outside authority and threaten everyone's access. I think his position is more effectively made by cogently arguing his point rather than going rogue with a chisel.
JosephH Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Choada_Boy - you have no clue what I'm about. Again, you don't want me on that route...
chucK Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 mainstream media Check out that overhanging sickness on the first pitch!
ivan Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 maybe i'm confused but i don't think either of my comments above could be construed as "hate-fuck-ignorant-bliss" - i agreed it doesn't need a sticky nor should we always be bitchign about it - if i live as long as i want i'm sure some day i'll climb it after exhausting all the alpine trad stuff i care to climb, assuming the Bolt War doesn't descend upon us all
archenemy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 “Most people who want to climb don’t want to be hard-core climbers. If the only types of routes available were traditional routes, there would be fewer climbers." Now *that* would be infinite bliss.
Off_White Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 That's pretty sweet There are some real howlers in that article, but all in all it's not a half bad job of examining the issues.
archenemy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 this is a good ending: Pagliaro said the best advice he can give for anyone wanting to start climbing is to “make sure you learn from people who know what they’re talking about and take your time getting into the sport. Make sure you get in lots of practice on beginner and intermediate routes before you jump into a route like Infinite Bliss.” The underlying assumption sounds like folks immediately think that now the route is bolted, any schmoe can run up it. This is the psychological side of bolting that I am not sure I like.
G-spotter Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Hey, The Bachar-Yerian is bolted, so it must be just like Bunny Face right?!
archenemy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Hey, The Bachar-Yerian is bolted, so it must be just like Bunny Face right?! Sure, it's just more run out.
Marko Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Digression: Note that Infinite Bliss is really a variation of a route put up in 1999 by Mike Preiss onsight, solo (some self-belaying) and with no bolts. Even more digression: The solution of Johnny Blitz' equation has alway kinda bugged me: Talk - Action = Zilch... So what then, Talk = Action?
