EWolfe Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 There's an ad with two guys, one's a PC and the "cool" guy is a Mac. He says Macs don't get the viruses PC's get. I don't know much about this stuff, but if it's true, why would you use a PC then? Is it cost? Flame on, Geeks! Quote
John Frieh Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I don't know much about this stuff, but if it's true, why would you use a PC then? Because you can't do shit on a Mac except update your blog and act all pretentious in your local coffee shop Then again things are starting to look up for Macs... Quote
John Frieh Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Here's one... so pretentious he has a crown! Quote

Figger_Eight Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 You can do lots more geeky computer dork stuff on a PC - beyond that, everything is better on a Mac. Quote
TREETOAD Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 My son has a mini mac. It is about the size of a hard drive has bluetooth, wifi, dvd burner, wireless mouse and keyboard, a ton of ram and is fast as hell. Very smooth and very cool. Has never had a virus or even pop up problems. Quote
foraker Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Besides, when was the last time you looked at a Microsoft product and said "Holy shit, Batman, that's fucking cool". My guess would be 'never'. Quote
crackers Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Actually, I have to confess that everytime I send an excel or access file across the planet, and they run the thing on their $400 computer as well as I can on mine, I'm like, wow, MS really has some pretty awesome business applications. Of course, my point of comparison is my commodore 64. Quote
AlpineK Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 PC/Mac who gives a fuck it's a computer you fucking geeks. If you want something worth arguing about try Ford/Chevy. Quote
Dechristo Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 blonde vs. brunette Alien vs. Predator; same thing Quote

cj001f Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I can get a PC and a pint a day or a mac. Beer + computer wins every time. Quote
foraker Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Fair enough. Besides, to use a Mac these days you'd probably have to shave your head and wear black and "euro style" eyeglasses (even if you don't need them). Quote
ChrisT Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I had a virus on my Mac...once...about 10 years ago. What are pop-ups? Quote
cj001f Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 What are pop-ups? Things that went the way of the Dinosaur Quote

snoboy Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I had a virus on my Mac...once...about 10 years ago. What are pop-ups? No idea, they still scare the bejeezus out of me when I use someone else's computer. I am a PC user though. PCs are cheaper and there is more software written for them. If there were more Macs there would be more Mac viruses. Quote
matt_m Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 (edited) I had a virus on my Mac...once...about 10 years ago. What are pop-ups? If there were more Macs there would be more Mac viruses. PCs are cheaper because you don't get as much - this myth was once true but now if you do a Dell vs Mac comparison with SIMILAR products (easier now that they use the same chips) you'll see the mac is even if not a better value. True, more programs are written for PC but if you're the average user (ie not Engineering or CAD - hell biotech uses Macs all the time) all you needs are fine on a Mac (Office, Internet, Email, music and photos) Many argue that Mac Office is better than PC Office. Only downside - Outlook and some other Microsoft Biz aps don't have MAc versions. Microsoft isn't dumb enough to port all of their Biz Cash cow to Mac... Really the diff is philosophical more than anything - That or ignorance... Edited May 16, 2006 by matt_m Quote

archenemy Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Just get one of each. I have a new mac on the way so I can say "HOly Shite b-man, that's cool" as well as get my dork fix. Sometimes I love consumerism. Quote
ChrisT Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I use a Dell-PC at work but own an iBook which I *love* - don't get me wrong. My only beef with Macs is the hardware. For what you pay, I think they could make the hardware a little sturdier.... Quote
