This is a cheap and simple piece of gear, but there are a lot of different designs out there so I'm wondering what others have used and liked. Dru Posted July 25, 2005 Share Posted July 25, 2005 i don't think any climbers out there have had to bail because they were using the wrong brand of nut tool. the one with integral knife could be useful if you need to cut a lot of webbing or if you want to be aron ralston and do surgery with your nut tool. snoboy Posted July 26, 2005 Share Posted July 26, 2005 Ushba.. BD is good, the DMM one with the hooks on the back end sux. Ed Leeper thinks a lot of his design. Ushba - thin, has a nice flat end to hit, works. disadvantage - it's Ti, so people will think you're a geek for having a ti nutter. Anything opens beer bottles... billcoe Posted July 27, 2005 Share Posted July 27, 2005 All of the advice so far has been good. DMM also makes a blue handle model which is good. If I had to buy 1: Trango shark. If I did alpine or long routes: Ushba titanium. But I don't have to choose one, so I have all of the tools mentioned except the Metlious, and I climb with 3 people who own that one and it works fine too. It did take me a few days to break my trango tool although it still sort of works. SemoreJugs Posted August 6, 2005 Share Posted August 6, 2005 i find keychain biners great for clipping gear that is not pro to my harness (ie nut tool, camera, nalgene) I prefer a nut tool with a flat sirface to strike with a hex for those stubborn nutz that my partner yanked on. I find them to work nice as a supplemental, or second nut tool (sometimes one tool aint enough for the ladies). Besides, it has the extra function of protection if you need it.
