glassgowkiss Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 ok i don't know if it's just me, but i think there is a major problem with search feature on this site. i was trying to find a post about back of beyond climb in bc. after typing name it brought pages of usless crap, like tr's from bc, rockies and all sort of crap. like i stated before, we need a separate part for new routes. information gets lost in the river of useless spray. i consider 95% of tr's as spray, as they are about routes already described in multiple guide books. If you type "+Back +Beyond +Buttress" into the search window and select "main posts only" you will get good results. You can narrow your search even further by selecting "British Columbia" forum and specifying a date range, but it isn't necessary. Using the "+" before each word requires that ALL THREE of those words must be in the post. If you don't have the "+" there, then all posts with ANY of those words in them will be found. Quote

If you can wipe the salty-GU off your palm long enough to get the plus key unstuck, and stop felching your dead grandma. fern Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 If you click on the Trip Report Index title in the top menu bar (or follow this link: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/tripreports.php?Cat=0 ) it will open the Trip Report Index with some search fields at the top. Fill in your info etc. and click Filter and it will sort ONLY through the trip reports, not through the entire post database. Not all TRs that were posted before the TR Index was created have been indexed yet - the mods have to enter these one by one and it's a big job. If you find an old one that is not indexed yet notify the relevant mod to get it added. Quote

What you CAN'T get from Beckey or Nelson is what the route is like currently, or if there's an access problem (the log over the river is washed out) or that sort of thing. Clearly a lot of people DON'T post TRs, because they get called for spraying. I'd prefer more TRs. If you don't like 'em, don't read 'em (like summit logs!) Quote
