maybe their tongues are tired from choaging all that MC, or maybe they're salivating from being around all those hard buns, or maybe they think it makes them sound more attractive/available to other guys. it's actually kind of curious. cantfocus.gif

It has to do with falling levels of testosterone leading to feminized speech patterns and also partly due to an affected sense of group identity in a sort of unconscious linguistic negative dialectic in order to achieve identity in a hetro-dominated society. Notice that both women and homosexual males have rising intonation patterns in normal, declarative statements; the pitch rises at the very end as most of us only do with questions. In training females for assertiveness in business, this is one of the major linguistic markers that sociolinguists identify -- it expresses a quality of self doubt and weakness in the firm, masculine environs of business.

Prof of mine did a paper on it Geek_em8.gif

i thought gay men have repeatedly been shown to have higher testosterone levels than hetero men, unless this is a reference to variation within an individual over time (?). i'm willing to buy to subconscious self identification theory, but i'd tend to think of it as more of a way that gay men tell people they're gay, because if there's one thing gay men do - it's advertise. anyway, i get the idea.

glad there are some linguists here. the ladies man likes to see himself as a 'cunning linguist' himself hehehe.
