  1. They used Dyanfits for ascent & descent. Straps work - my point was more if it's truly steep (steeper than I can ski) once you fall your not going to have much of chance to stop yourself.
  2. It must have been an oven over there.
  3. Do you know why they dragged it up?
  4. If it's truly steep & hard you won't meet up with the ski until you reach the bottom
  5. That seem's to be the previaling wisdom - but there are a number of hairball skier's who use Dynafit stuff, to note: http://www.climbsepu.com/mountain/plan.cfm I'm looking to add a pair of Dyanfit's to the new Mira's this winter. b-rock - who'd you end up getting to mount the Dynafit's?
  6. Rob- Is that Mount Hood: A Complete History by Graeur? The picture I got from http://www.pdxhistory.com it's got a number of cool old pictures & postcards of Cloudcap inn & hood.
  7. The Dynafit Tourlite Tech's are the lightest binding out there 1/2 the weight of the others. But you can only put 1 sole length on. They have a 3rd redesign of the Tri-Step out this fall that should be less finicky, and more adjustable, but we'll see about reliability. Fritschi's are a good binding, and have all the stepin ease of alpine. The Silvretta 555 is a slightly heavier, but just as nice as the Diamir - it's NOT moutaineering boot compatible. For that you want the Silvretta 500.
  8. Here's a picture I found of the old lookout on Mt. Hood. Anyone know why I can't import a bitmap?
  9. I'd disagree - if your travelling by yourself you'll meet a ton more interesting people travelling by train & staying in hostels. And the railpasses aren't that good a deal - unless your taking alot of long rail journeys - which is stupid, given the cheap Euro air carriers like Easyjet.com Travelling by train is also MUCH easier if you're going to be spending alot of time in cities. Driving in Italian cities sucks.
  10. heh, will strickland and i went there a few years back!! ruined the whole next day!!! i puked twice on the way to my grandma's weding! Sounds about par for the spaceroom course!
  11. Focused is in PDX Saturday night!
  12. Meth Labs? I thought those were all out in Clackamas & Sandy! If your looking for climbing - Rocky Butte (84 & 205) is close to you - our head out to Broughton's Bluff (84 & the Sandy River) Try Spaceroom (or bog - but worse drinks) on Hawthorne if your into drinks.....
  13. Once you're allowed into the miracle we call "bars" you'll understand young grasshopper.
  14. Yes. Crossbow = Beta
  15. Gracias Roger - The fall winter was an off the cuff mention - I was curious to see if that plan was going to come through. Carl
  16. What part of the binding pulled out of the ski couldn't you read? The whole damn thing - cable, riser & leash was attached to my foot - but that assembly wasn't attached to the ski.
  17. Shove your brodeal up your ass. The last $15 skis I bought the bindings popped out the foam core pieces of shit - and the ski went down the bump run, through the lift house, out the lift line and down the scrup covered hill. Fuck that shit - I'll take a Lou Dawson (Tele Sucks!) Mira review over your recycled manufacturer drivel any day. Does Hattrup let you sniff his jockstrap?
  18. Over at Sierratradingpost you can get a pair of Mira's for $250 (including shipping)
  19. Damn! He won't even come out of the grave for us! I guess corpses are alpine skiers......
  20. Let's leave them out of this... lol
  21. I've yet to see a free-heel jibber ever do a telemark turn in the pipe - what exactly makes them free-heel? The binding. Hmm. I've always defined telemark skiing as a turn. T-Races + Bishops+ Piste Pipes = Alpine.
  22. I've yet to see a free-heel jibber ever do a telemark turn in the pipe - what exactly makes them free-heel?
  23. Off Piste did a review last year http://www.offpistemag.com/themag/hardcopy/op_17_web.pdf Which claimed they weighed the same - but had crappier glide. I've no first hand experience - but packing up smaller would be nice.
  24. Yeah I was looking at them for AT skis - we'll see.
  25. My Mohair's grip better in powder powder (not PNW powder) Nylon's are much more durable on corny crap snow. Rainier - where'd you get the BCA's were low fat? From what I've read & seen they're the same as all the rest?
