I think there is an entire forum set aside at www.rockclimbing.com where people can stroke themselves over how many pitches less they did Epenephrine in than the next guy. You should check it out!

Grey Wall along the railroad tracks at Larrabee. Maybe 100 yards south of where the beach trail crosses under the tracks. Just below the parking lot on top of Mt Erie in Anacortes is a wall well suited for toproping.

Definitely post something on your footwear invention. It sounds pretty damn unique!

I think grades in the PNW are a little on the soft side. The T-F traverse might take a while but it's technically unchallenging and just not that severe. Grade IV seems a LOT more reasonable. Same with other "Grade V's" like NE Buttress of Slesse and Clean-Break. Both these routes are regularly done in a day by moderate climbers and offer ~10 pitches of 5.7 -to- 5.10- climbing. Isn't a Grade V supposed to be two full days of technically challenging climbing? were as a Grade IV is one FULL day of technically challenging climbing? I imagine N Norweigan Buttress and The Diamond on Bear Peak are honest to goodness Grave VIs but I sure couldn't tell yah!

[TR] Les Cornes- Springbok Arete 7/1/2004
dberdinka replied to layton's topic in British Columbia/Canada
In my recollection the "10c" finger crack has one brutal reach that was way to easy to pull past on a nut. That single move is probably harder than mid-10. Ignoring that one move the burly, wide, steep crack was way more of a crux than the finger crack. Mind rattling off the other 5 or 6? -
Saddam is a real bastard but.... we invade a secular dictatorship without an active WMD program and... Allow looters to steal 1.8 tons of radioactive material! and Create a power vacuum that allows Islamic Radicalism to flourish! So ummm...isn't the "war on terrorism" really a war against Islamic Radicals who want to build theocractic governments as well as an attempt to limit their access to weapons they can use against us (i.e. WMD) The article referenced is just more evidence that we lost this battle BIG-TIME. Thanks Bush!

Thanks assmonkey. It's nice to actually see what the guy has voted for and against! I did my best to take a random sampling of 12 of the votes (it's a long list) in question where Kerry scored a + . Here's my interpretation of the results 1-by-1. Kerry is for reproductive rights of women for oil companies being liable for the damages from their oil-spills for federal minimum wage increases for mandatory maternity/family leave requirements for all but small-businesses for spending a budget excess on social programs vs more tax-cuts for the regulation of gun sales at gun sales for closing special-interest tax loopholes for allowing the poor to present legal challenges against welfare reform against continued funding of SDI/missile defense programs against line-item veto power for the president against continued funding of the B-2 bomber program Or in summary Kerry seems to help the lower and middle class while asking that corporations pay their share of taxes and be liable for their actions. Throw in some ideas like limiting unneccesary defense spending (what would we do without B-2 bombers!) along with background checks on gun sales, limiting presidential powers and being pro-choice and I see what Assmonkey means. THIS MAN IS A COMMUNIST WITH A NEFARIOUS PLOT TO DESTROY THE AMERICAN DREAM!!!!! Thank you for bringing this to our attention ass-monkey!!! Heres the random sample I looked at......... FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS 12. Family Planning Counseling -- Title X. (S 110) Chafee (R-RI) amendment to specify that pregnant women receiving family planning services at federally funded facilities, upon request, be advised of all their legal and medical options, including abortion. (60 votes needed) Rejected 50-46, October 7. A yes vote was a +. Kerry + FOR SOCIAL PROGRAMS VS MORE TAX-CUTS 4. Fiscal 1996 Budget Resolution -- Democratic Alternative. (S Con Res 13) Exon (D-NE) motion to waive the Budget Act to take the $170 billion that would be freed for tax cuts if Congress passed a reconciliation bill big enough to balance the budget by 2002 and restore $100 billion for Medicare, $30 billion for education, $17 billion for the earned income tax credit, $10 billion for agriculture, $3 billion for veterans' programs, and $10 billion for deficit reduction. Motion rejected 47-53, May 23. A yes vote was a +. Kerry + AGAINST LINE-ITEM VETO POWER FOR PRESIDENT 8. Line Item Veto. (S 43) Majority Leader Dole (R-KS) motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the motion to proceed to consider the bill giving the President power of line-item veto. (A 3/5 majority, 60, is needed to invoke cloture.) Rejected 58-40, July 24. A no vote was a +. Kerry + FOR THE REGULATION OF GUN SALES AT GUN SHOWS (THE HORROR!) 4. Gun Show Checks. (S 254) Lautenberg (D-NJ) amendment to the Juvenile Crime Bill that would require criminal background checks on all gun sales at gun shows, prohibit non-federal licensees from participating in gun shows and direct the U.S. Attorney General to hold background files collected on gun owners for 90 days. Passed 51-50, May 20 with Vice President Gore casting the tie breaking vote. A yes vote was a +. Edwards + Kerry + Lieberman + FOR CLOSING SPECIAL-INTEREST TAX-LOOPHOLES 14. Closing Tax Loopholes. Rejected 43-56, August 2. A yes vote was a +. Kerry +

Is hunting a strictly CC.com thing or a sport practiced by internet junkies of all interests and dispostions?

No Will they're all oriented correctly. North at top.

Using the USAPhotoMaps shareware I checked out the formations around Darrington. Found it pretty amazing how much larger Squire Creek Wall is than the more commonly traveled walls. Check it out...

Well, at the very least, congrats on a burly self-evac. You sound like one tough mofo.

I recently broke my ankle. No way I could have walked out of Dragontail (much less the Smoke Bluffs) on it. Seems like a lot of climbers have injured their ankles, I imagine lots of people will have detail to add. Do you care to give us a mini-TR on the accident? My partner and I had a near catastrophe on the Fin two summers ago when he knocked loose a suitcase size block that hit the rope, tugging him off for a 30+' winger, and came within a foot or two of braining me. Could have been ugly.

Sage wisdom from Joe Simpson "You gotta keep making choices, even if they're the wrong ones" That makes me smile, a lot

Someones gotta ask the tough questions..... -
Sorry to hear that. Walking through the forest in the north cascades last weekend it's scary how dry to underbrush and moss is. I hope this isn't our year to burn on the westside.

So if this is the crux, and you have gear at yer balls, whats with the R part of rating? Is it the semi-loose block, or is there easier runout climbing? Know what I'm saying. 5.10b with a stretch of 5.8R sound cool for many folks. 10b R sounds sketchy for many folks (me included). -
11+ OW and chimneys on left edge of Zodiac Wall. Haaah beat Dru to it!

Maybe not what you're going to cook up on the Abruzzi Ridge but it's freakin tasty and high high in calories..... 1 package dried tortellini 1 can chicken breast 1 package dried pesto some olive oil and parm boil water, pour some off to make pesto boil tortellini 15 minutes drain toss everything together, fry it up a bit top with parm follow with half a package of Jello no-bake cheesecake cooled in the snow

It's always hard to find the first time and the second and the....basically follow Dru's directions. You need to go pretty high in the third summit gully before breaking out of it. trail is pretty darn obvious so don't get suckered out of the gully to low.
