Cman and I skied up under the east face of Chair Peak today.
Things were looking good when we left Seattle, but as we got up high in the Snoqualmie river valley you could see the clouds at the pass. Sure enough the Alpental death fog was there to greet us. We followed a well beat out track to Source Lake and then some snowshoe tracks above. We eventually ran into the snowshoers, John Sharp and friend, and chatted for a bit.
Skinning into Chair peak bowl went fairly well, but we were soon confused by the white out below the peak. Originally we were going to ski to Snow Lake, but the clouds made us change our minds, so we skied back down to Source lake. The snow was fantastic, and we had great skiing through the trees below the upper basin, but the lack of depth perception on the slopes above Source lake sucked.
There were a ton of people below the lake. I remember distinctly almost running down two women and their dogs who decided to take a lunch break in the middle of the trail...idiots.
All and all it was better than hanging out in town.
