I'm not going, but I'd like to say that Lightning Dome is pretty cool. I climbed there a bunch when I was at school in Moscow. Goose Egg mountain is a big choss pile. I remember one time after climbing we stopped in this store to buy beer. The store was the front section of the owners house, and you could see grandma sitting in a rocking chair off in the living room. Owner: What are you boys doing up here? Me: Climbing on some rocks down the valley. Owner: Well you boys should head on up to Elk City. Me: Oh yeah, what's going on up there? Owner: Well all the men folk are down in Riggins watching the jet boat races. You could have all the women to yourselves...the both of them.

I've been starting to think about this upcoming winter. I checked the NOAA long term forcast. The prediction is for average precipitation and above average temps on the west coast. They were right for the trends last year, so that's what I'd go with.

Just how is Geek wrong about loggers ledge. Your landlord and a couple others cut some big trees off loggers ledge. They had to stop traffic on hwy 2 when they did it. In terms of overall impact to the environment cutting the trees on the ledge is many magnitudes worse than placing bolts on DDD. Not that I'm against cutting trees or for the bolts placed on DDD.

You implied that use of fancy pants hightech materials could make the plane feasible/economic. No matter what you do, when you go supersonic you're talking about using a boat load of fuel and you have to make a narrow plane...thus you can't fit many passengers in it. Josh is right people want to fly cheap. Hell most of your time flying is spent sitting in the airport.

I think it doesn't matter what name you go under on the internet. If you use an avatar long enough your own style comes out. In the case of the internet I don't think it's the best place to have any kind of serious debate over anything. It might be a good place to organize a meeting where something serious gets debated, but online everybody becomes charactors of themselves.

In the prototypes when they folded back the wings the wings would start to melt from the heat of the engines. The original SST was just a big waste of money. What killed the project is congress denied Boeing money to build it. Super sonic planes are for the military. Just look at the concord; they only built a handfull of the planes, and they could hardly turn a profit without government funding. You're getting in the deep end of the pool there Catturd. I've known one of the engineers on the project for over 40 years.

The real JZ doesn't post. Outside of looking at email and a few other mundain things on the internet he's not involved. In fact he only climbs when me and or CJZ take him. Right now I imagine he's stressed out about finding an employee, the new addition to his house, and what his teenage daughter is doing.

I've listened to a couple talks on landslides and slope stability. One talk was given by an engineer who has worked on a number of projects around the coast hwy in OR. His #1 priority in improving the stability of a steep slope was to get the water off the slope. If the park service is adding an unnatural amount of water to the area above Glacier Point then they could be responsible for the rock fall. I don't know about the merrits of the case, and I certainly don't want to see climbing shut down in the valley, but the Park service might be behind the rockfall.

Ben I thought you were going away. My view is that if the crux pitch of a route is 5.11 then bolts should be placed so that someone who leads at that grade will feel more or less comfortable. The hard pitches may require a number of bolts, but the 5.7 pitch leading to the hard bits should be run out. Also no bolts next to cracks that you can reasonably protect. I can see why Gorilla my dreams has bolts, and I can see why a pitch with thin expanding flakes might require bolts, but there's a ton of stuff out there that can be naturally protected yet it has bolts right next to cracks.

Everyone has their own ethics. Yours, as stated above, are quite in character with the asshole we all know you to be. Wrong again Brian. Pete is just bluntly stating the rules of the game.
