  1. There is already a company that can produce it from algae (which they grow in hanging plastic bags). It sounds like this would be a viable option. (the article I read on this was in a recent Scientific American) I've read a little about the algae fuel thing. It sounds interesting and possibly a good idea.
  2. Retesting may be a good idea. Like everybody else I took the standard driving test at 16. In my 30s I was working for a company that required drivers to have a CDL. That meant more testing both written and driving around in a CDL truck with a tester. More recently, after my injury from last year, the doctors wanted me to get evaluated for driving again. I had a tester show up at my place and I drove him around for an hour. At the time I figured it was in my best interest given what I'd been through, but it may be in the best interest of everybody to get themselves retested.

    Alcohol

I really like Gibsons, martinis are almost as good. Manhattans are fantastic. I like Margaritas. I always order them on the rocks and never blended, so I don't know if I get any points for that. Other than that good scotch, good tequila, and stuff like VSOP are high on my list. Of course that's all on hold for now.
  4. I'd come down to check out Canucks, but I've gotta work in Seattle in the rain on Saturday. Have fun.
  5. I've been helicoptered in to the area just north of the Duffy lake road once. Of course we only took one ride and skied out. That seems like acceptable use to me, but an all day helicopter barrage does not seem like a good idea.
  6. I've spent over a month at ABC on the North side of Everest. We were trying the NE Ridge, but there were a bunch of people in different groups trying the N col route. There was a group of French guys out to set a speed record. All the French guys would hang out at ABC and smoke lots of unfiltered cigarettes. No group summited the mountain that year via any route. All the frogs seemed happy hanging out and smoking. I was more into trying the Sherpas chew that you would mix with lye before chewing and spitting. All the Sherpas had a good time getting me to chew tobacco. I can also tell you that boredom and the medical kit didn't cause problems.
  7. I thought about going, but I have plenty of gear and no extra money for new gear.
  8. I do a lot of business via cell phone. It's nice to have direct contact with a client or potential client when you're in the field. I've always made it a rule to never talk while I'm driving unless it's a friend. I've been riding the bus a lot recently, and I've watched people blab on their cell with 50 strangers listening in. I can't believe those folks don't know how rude they're being. Cell phones piss me off on the bus, but they don't make me get livid like those bluetooth phones. On the bus or in the store I see folks with those things, and it takes me a minute to figure out why these people are walking around with their hands down talking. If somebody has a mental handicap or some other physical impairment then I'm pretty understanding, but if it's obvious that the person talking has no medical problems other than a device they bolted to their ear then I get mad.
  9. I'm just happy nobody's posted a superwide picture yet. On this page that is.

    The cc.com of....

    Jesus turned water into wine.
  11. Back a few years ago I scrambled up the south side of Larrabee from Twin lakes. It was pretty easy but fun. My friends dog came along.

    Colbert out

Too bad. I would have voted for Colbert no matter what party he was. He's clearly the best candidate for president out there.
  13. I don't know the exact schedule, but that road is closed in the winter.
  14. Rad. That's a great site.
  15. My dad's been in a few countries where drinking is prohibited to the locals. Foreigners can still get a drink without causing problems. All you have to do is get a card on arrival to the country where you state that you are an alcoholic and you have to drink booze. I hear it isn't too difficult to do, but I'm sure that there are a few countries where even that isn't permitted.
  16. I friend of mind who worked for the same tree service I did in Seattle years ago decided that he wanted to travel for awhile. He drove to New Orleans and liked it, so he got a job. He worked for this one company for a year. One of his coworkers wasn't a great tree climber, but he liked squirrel meat. The dude saw a squirrel up in a big tree, so he got out his gun and shot the squirrel. Unfortunately the dead squirrel landed on a limb way up high in the tree. This fellow couldn't fetch the squirrel meat, so he ask my buddy to come over and climb up to retrieve the dead squirrel. My friend never helped the poor squirrel hunter out.
  17. There's nothing to see here please move along.
  18. I just want to hear Craig stand up and say I'm from Idaho and I'm bisexual I think there are a bunch of Idaho republicans that need to come to terms with part of their base. There are lots of log cabin republicans out there.
  19. I had 2 starts to bc skiing. Once as a kid when there were the super old school cable bindings and downhill bindings my dad got me out in the bc; that's a pretty funny story but let's skip that. When I did start bc skiing on my own the only boots that I could find were the standard downhill stuff or climbing boots. Climbing boots were a hell of a lot better than the available ski boots, but they still sucked. Skiing in climbing boots is really hard. You have to really focus on holding your lower legs in proper form for skiing. I'd say if you do that kind of skiing plan on doing a lot of step kicking and side slipping. It's better than stupid shoes, but only slightly better.
  20. I like climbing and skiing, but skiing kicks butt on climbing.
  21. At this point in the season I suggest doing a search for and reading Muir on Saturday It's very educational when it comes to early season skiing.
  22. I'm going to a party on Saturday night, so I didn't do anything last night. I should also point out it's easy to not have a hangover if you don't drink.....You drunks.
  23. At this point I'd just like to say [font:Century Gothic] Fuck you you fucking fuck [/font]
  24. Nelson is good. I've also had some good trips to Rogers Pass; there are some great trips off the highway there.
