It's been a long long time since I rode the high speed lift at the Snoqualmie Mountaineers. If I remember right the safety gate there was above your exit spot. If you didn't release and your scarf was around the rope I don't think the machine would shut down anywhere near fast enough. The set up they still have at the Meany lodge seems a lot safer since you have to release the rope in order to slide through the gate to a flat exit. If you've never been on a high speed rope tow you can get some idea about what I'm talking about from this picture. The lift travels at about 20 mph and stays a few feet off the ground until you get to the exit spot where the rope has to travel to about 20' off the ground to travel through one of two blocks. As a kid I remember being told time after time to wear thick leather mitts and not to wear a scarf or have long hair that you didn't put under a hat.

I was on the ascent of Monkey Pub. It was very disconcerting to show your ID to the ranger at the base of the hard part of the climb. I've been around this insane peak many times. It's been years since any ranger felt like I might not have the right credentials to be anywhere near the Monkey Pub. Fortunately enough my ID badge was in good condition and I passed the test. The ascent was hard and there seemed to be a lot of flying debris that looked like sharp pool cues. Fortunately these projectiles didn't inflict major bodily harm. We all survived the climb but then everybody had different experiences on the descent. We all shook hands and went our own path. I got lucky and the northern descent proved straight forward.

This is the best trip report ever.

I kind of like the smart cars since they're small. It's nice to have a big rig every once and a while, but you don't need one for day to day travel unless you're a contractor that carries a lot of equipment. I hear the smart cars are legal for nose in parking in a lot of places; that's a handy feature. Those all electric vehicles look pretty cool. A friend of mine turned a minivan style rig into an electric vehicle. He's had it for a couple months and it seems to do pretty well. He had to put a ton of batteries in the back, but I believe he can drive 70 miles between charges. He only drives it around town. All I have to say about fuel is diesel rules. Real truckers who drive for a living have diesel trucks and folks who use things like chippers for a living go for diesel engines. I'm not going to get into the arguments on bio vs petroleum diesel. Diesel rules no matter what type.

Not only do you need a yak; you should insist on a Goretex yak.

I ask my doctor. He basically said, "Suck it up and deal with it." I guess there are expensive procedures that might work, but it doesn't seem worth it.

If I had to pick states BC and WA are at the top of the pile. North ID is pretty cool too, and I'd say the same for western MT. I've met cool folks from OR but in general you're too close to those Californicators. I do respect you for acting as a buffer.

I'd like to meet Trask. I'm also not sure if I've actually met RuMR.

Bring back Kit Lewis to Index, and bring back the pig.

I almost never loose my toe nail. On the other hand one of my big toe nails is three times the thickness of a normal toe nail. It bugs me and I wish it would go away. It's a major pain to trim it; I feel like I need to buy a special cutter to deal with it.

I've had some good climbing days while the folks at the gun club were having a good time blasting stuff.

I came up with Bill Richardson too. I'm not sure what to say. I don't think he'll get that far in the primary.

Yeah things are looking better in BC. I'd be there if I had a little extra money for gas.

I remember that. I believe about 70 (I might have the # wrong)chairs with skiers on them went backwards through the bull wheel before they shut the thing down and rescued everybody else still sitting on chairs. All the rad stuff happened at Hyak; I don't think anybody got very hurt. What's even more scary is the reason the Mountaineers high speed rope tow was shut down. All I'm going to say on that is do not wear a scarf while riding a high speed rope tow especially when riding by yourself at night.

I seem to remember both Minx and Archie at that party. Bowling in basement was a highlight; I've still got two bowling balls. I've never met KKKKKKKK or Extremo Mountain Dude...or the Rooster...at least I don't remember meeting them.

Dru you're obviously not a good enough climber to do anything other than granite climbing. I am curious what routes you've done in the Canadian Rockies. Robson? Oubliette? Or have you only been to the Banff film festival?
-
Have you ever heard of Edith Cavell, Robson, or the Tonquin valley? And that's just a few.
-
I was thinking of something up by Twin Lakes, but maybe not.
-
Spoken by a man with little Canadian Rockies experience.

Well I've met both JayB and DeChristo. They are different people. As for JZ he's a jackass who's chipper keeps breaking on him.
-
You'll be close to a lot of rad climbing.

organizing an expedition to summit Mt. Everest
AlpineK replied to bapsdds's topic in The rest of the US and International.
What route? -
That's pretty darn good, but I may have you beat hands down.
