  1. He never bothered to explain how his group was going to assist other climbers who might be hurt on the mountain. I mean what kind of medical expertise does his group bring to Denali? Also he never addressed the coolest expedition ever done hundreds of years ago by Dante with an angel for a guide. I find it interesting that vertical hiker starts with the letter v as does the guide Vigil in Dante's expedition.
  2. If some of us were truly intolerant than vertical hiker would not be posting on the board or have a locked topic detailing the basic facts regarding his groups trip.
  3. vertical hiker Your posting here for the amusement factor you provide. Sure some folks agree with you, but a lot of posters are laughing at and not with you. To your credit you did come up with a good topic to fill up 14 and counting pages. I'm curious what credentials your group has to be out to help others on the mountain. Are some of your group EMTs? Doctors? Dentists? Do any of you know CPR? How do you augment the rangers and doctors at the 14 grand camp? I have faith that you're good at passing out waterproof religious packets.
  4. I can't help you on cost. The last time I rode that lift was '05. At the time it seemed like a fair price to pay for getting a ride up and away from the ski area.
  5. If I remember right Jordop knew a bit about skiing at Cypress and Mt. Seymour.
  6. It was a slab not a point release. We were both on the left had edge of the slide. Basically the original layer put down starting in October warmed up then refroze forming an icy sliding layer. I'm glad we were sticking to mostly tree skiing on Sunday. In the end it ended up being an interesting diversion and a good reminder to stay away from the the cool big slopes in the area. Small open areas are dangerous enough. What the Cascades needs now is a period of warming weather to get the two layers to bond to each other. Until then don't go out planning on ripping up the gnar gnar.
  7. If you can get a complete downhill setup with boots that fit you can AT ski with Alpine Trekkers. It sure isn't the best possible choice, but it does work.
  8. My personal favorite group is Bong Hits for Jesus. How could you dislike a group like that? And everybody stop calling vertical hiker VH; that abbreviation is reserved for Van Halen.
  9. It sounds like a good show.
  10. If you give enough money to the site you can have most any user title you want within reason.
  11. This is kind of a TR and kind of a cautionary tale. Jeff H and I were looking to get some turns in on the 16th. After looking at the Avy forecast we decided the most prudent thing to do would be to find some tree skiing. The Crystal backcountry seemed like a good bet since I knew there was fun tree skiing there and as a bonus the ski area didn't have the SBC open to the regular masses. Anyhow we started skinning up the Quicksilver lift at about 8:30 AM. Going through the resort went smoothly. After passing the top of Chair 4 we decided to take a direct line staying on the ridge crest in between Silver Basin and Avalanche Basin. Things were going just fine till we got near mid height on our route. At that point we had to do a short crossing in a more open area to get back to trees. While ascending we noticed the distinct icy base to the snow pack. Jeff made it 98% of the way through the open section when a medium sized chunk of the slope cut loose. I was a little below Jeff, so I became involved in the slide. The whole slide wasn't that big so the worst thing that happened to me was I got buried up to my knees and dusted with snow. Close up view of the slide Wider view of the slope. We were trying to stay to the left edge of the open area. After that I skinned the now safe avy debris and made it up to Jeff's high point. We decided that further upward progress was a bad idea, so we went into downhill mode and had a nice run on the new avy debris then some nice tree skiing. We skied down to Silver Creek and took a look back up. The biggest opening in the center is where the slide happened. We got forced out of the trees to the left. Here's a wider angle where you can see the cool but much scarier slopes to the left side. After that we followed the cat track back to the top of Chair 4 then cut left to the top of the run known as Boondoggel. The run was fenced off so we got a nice uncut powder run back to the lower cat track. Despite the scary bit this is the best skiing I've had yet this winter. we just need a warm spell with 14 grand freezing levels for a couple days and the slopes will be safer.
  12. I would never do it, but my favorite climbing story was the account of climbing Leaning Tower with nothing to eat for the whole trip but pbr and Vienna sausages. That was a great story. As far as the God Squad goes they can do whatever they want but leave the rest of us out of it.
  13. The old Frontier Room That place was cool I remember watching the lesbian bartender tell some bitch from Kirkland to fuck off. The richie bitch from Kirkland wanted the bartender to drop everything she was doing and make a special phone call for her. The bartender told the woman that there was a payphone up the street. Everybody at the bar started cracking up.
  14. If you're willing to drive to Whistler there's lots of BC skiing and if you have the money a one ride lift ticket is pretty good option. If that's too far I believe there's bc skiing from Grouse, Cypress, and Seymour. The Canucks know better than me though.
  15. You may want to edit 2/2/08 would be Feb 02, 2008 not Jan 02, 2008.
  16. Bummer. I haven't been there in years, but I've seen some good shows there.
  17. The Christian Bible teaches we all were made in God’s image, and were made to be with God. As God’s created beings our greatest joy is to be with God and our worst torture is to be separated from God. So we have two natures, the spiritual and the physical. What kind of joy or torture we can expect in our spiritual life after the passing of our physical is beyond our physical nature to understand. Dante wouldn't agree with you. He had it all figured out for his age.
  18. I guess I believe in god and shit. In terms of reading one of my favorite books is Dante's Divine Comedy Vol 1 Inferno. I mean traveling through hell; that's some rad shit. Purgatory was kind of cool too; but once Dante gets to Heaven that sounds like a dull spot. Right now I'm curious on the short modern list of who's going to hell, and more importantly what kind of torture they can expect. Lucifer must have updated the various circles of hell don't you think. Can you update us vertical hiker?
  19. I'm not sure what to say about Druel. I've had two recent longer climbing trips in the Coast Range one with Druel and one with Mark McClittrop. All in all I've had better luck skiing in the Coast Range with neither of those two.
  20. I've run my own business for years. I started out doing one type of work, and when I started my own business it was doing the same thing I'd done for years. I got all my jobs through Networking/connections. Recently I've been forced to slightly change what I do for work. I'm not sure how it's going to work out, but I'm relying on the fact that I know a ton of people in my industry. To some degree we're competitors, but it doesn't do anybody any good to try and screw over friends.
  21. I'm just sorry it wasn't me that banned you from Freshiez. You do ask a good question. All my early experience with downhill or AT skiing was on leather boots. I suppose you might be able to find some old used leather boots, but finding some new more modern boots would be good. Both for your friend and little kids out there.
  22. I'd agree with Jason. I remember a few times down near Moab when we were camping and some jerks at the next campsite decided to play the bongos all night long. They weren't trying to push any, "Christian," agenda that I could make out, but they were driving us crazy just by blaring their noise all night and interrupting the silence of nature.
