  2. So I leave class at PSU last night at 9:30 all set to cruise home on my mountain bike only to notice something very strange. Bike gone! Some loser stole my bike. Bike thieves suck ass. End of rant.

    The Ghost of DFA

I've climbed with Ivan. I think I can say with reasonable certainty that Ivan is not DFA. Why does anyone give a shit anyway? Your own lives so pathetically boring you can't find anything else to speculate about? Oops, guilty as charged.
  14. No, Jens, its not a typo. He was just doing his job. They have a "zero tolerance" policy at Beacon and he had to issue us a ticket. He could have confiscated our gear but at his discretion opted not to. He was extremely courteous and professional. I've had my share of bad experiences with cops and rangers but in this particular instance I felt he was a nice guy just doing his job. Truth is, we broke the law and we paid. No reason to get mad at him. I support wildlife preservation and in this case we just fucked up.
  15. Beacon Rock is closed to climbing to protect raptor nesting as of February 1st until July 15th. Due to a mindwarp, I thought it was open until February 14th so talked TG into suffering through a wet ascent of the SE corner which would have been capped off with some easy aid. Well, we found out its closed as of February 1st. The Ranger was very informative and helpful but we were cited for trespassing. Please make sure to confirm open access before climbing in protected areas. As if climbing at Beacon in the rain was not proof enough of my stupidity, I feel even dumber for potentially disturbing the birds and risking access.

And water skis. IF (and mind you, its a big 'if') the freezing level drops enough to turn that rain into snow, better bring an avy poodle.
  18. A member of NAMBLA?
  19. I have two shovels both made by BDEL. One is a smaller touring shovel that is discontinued. Metal blade, pretty light and my ice axe fits the blade of the shovel so I dont have to take the handle when mountaineering. The blade also functions as a deadman. I wish BDEL had not discontinued this shovel. The other shovel is a telescoping bobcat I take with me on longer trips. That baby is sturdy and moves some snow.
  20. Was that how you got chalk on his shoulders Trask?
  21. I think Trask is hardly the one to be criticizing someone for not being serious enough.
  22. GW's tax cut last year has really stimulated the economy has it not?
  23. I used AT gear with my Invernos on Denali in '99. At the time I had spent maybe a total of one week on downhill skis. Period. I'll let you imagine the consequences. I had zero control and was falling all over the damn place so I strapped them to my pack and walked. After punching through into a crevasse for the fourth time I put them back on but also put my skins back on to slow me down on the hills. Worked like a charm. When I went back last year I used tele gear. My T2's worked great for climbing.
  24. Birkenstocks
  25. "Five Ten's best selling approach shoe. Mountain Masters have proven their mettle world wide, with their bomber construction. This is THE Yosemite lifestyle shoe--designed for trails, traverses and technical scrambles . Or simply hangin' tentside." From the website. My feet were pretty cooked in them after hiking Snow Creek trail to Prusik. Of course, YMMV but I won't be buying any mroe 5.10 shoes. They're gaining notoriety for being shoddy on construction.
