Admit it. You'd deck yourself out if you had the money. I know I would. I'm stuck commuting on a 35# mountain bike with flat pedals, a kinked chain, a dead fork and a squeaky bottom bracket. I pass the occasional roadie but their doing a hell of a lot less work than I am.

The only bad thing I've seen with Heliums is that you can push the gate sideways so that it doesn't close properly. It's not a major problem since it's pretty rare to close a biner while the gate is being pushed but something to watch out for. I racked my nuts on notchless biners for a while and one or two would slip off. I'm back to using a wire gate D-oval kind of biner and the notch seems to catch them before they drop. Maybe I'm just careless.

Those of you who were spanked (or whatever) that now respect that decision, did you harbor resentment toward or fear the parent? Did you dread your home life? Did it interfere with engaging your parents for advice? What did you do that makes you now think that you deserved the bruise? That is what I would be afraid of by being a strict parent. Would it cause greater problems with them as a teenager where they are afraid to ask for advice? Obedience would be less important to me than self confidence and trust.

Aren't there issues with crampons and the tele duckbill?

That glacier looks freaky. Glad you made it through OK. Too bad the weather didn't cooperate but that seems to be the way it goes with alpine climbing. I hope that glacier goes soon so that you can get your gear back. I know how much it means to you. At least you got a good pitch in. Right now I think I'll go and practice passing a knot on rappel
