Length of ski depends on your weight, your height and what you've skied previously. With that being said, I'd imagine the majority of ski on something in the 170s and 180s.

I can second the alpine threadworks pack. I used and abused mine all this past year and it has held up like a champ. Really well designed. So good that two of my ski partners purchased their own after they say mine. Neil does good work and also does customization if you so desire. For what its worth, I've been eyeing some packs from Vaude to try for big ice cragging/winter alpine climbing..

Keenan: where the rap is would difficult to downclimb to the gully; slightly overhung with not good feet or hands. We left new webbing and a locker on it last month. The first time I climbed this route we stayed lower and didn't need to rap. Sam: Nice job on the route. It is definitely a big one. I'd recommend doing it again in a couple years to see how much you've improved. It is a good litmus test.

That is rampart ridge. Given my time in the area, there is probably a reason why there are no routes up it!

I don't have the exact weight of inserts, but they're less than 260g, which counts if you're into that sort of thing. Price is $120 per ski set vs $18... Stack height is more of a concern if you use brakes or ski crampons. We're only talking 7 mm here but ya know... Not really trying to get into an argument about it. Both systems have their perks. Rob I think you'll be happy and Jon Drums is a good guy if you have any questions.

Curious why you need different bindings for those three? Inserts would still be advantageous if your bindings all have the same mounting pattern, then you can still swap the bindings between skis.

Mounting plates are much heavier, much more expensive and add stack height.

If you are comfortable with power tools you can do all the stuff yourself. His templates are good as well. I do all my own binding mounts now.

Sweet Pat! I've made two trips out there and had a blast both times. I've gone in early september when there is no crowds and no bugs. Count me in for a group trip to the winds! Haystack is phenomenal!
