  1. this is why god invented sheep baa baa baa baa baa
  2. Thanks for the feedback Dane and Chris. Guess I'll have to check one out down the road...still kind of surprised more companies aren't doing something like this. Patagonia made something similar, but not quite as good as OR's pattern http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-piton-hybrid-hoody-for-alpine-climbing?p=31810-0-175
  3. By that logic any sort of infection that would activate the adaptive immune system would cause an immune response and B-cell replication, therefore unleashing your said cancer making virus. Not saying your logic is wrong, just that its not specific to immunizations, which goes back to the point I made earlier in my previous post.
  4. Interesting thread. A lot of the typical responses. JayB, I really like your posts and agree with your logic and using of published peer reviewed articles, not random .com websites and people's comments on articles. I would be curious to hear about people's background and basic understanding of immunology, genetics, especially regarding autoimmunity. Heck one could argue that the people who got autism after their vaccine already were predisposed with a genetic immunological hypersensitivity and all it needed was a trigger, whether it was the flu vaccine or any old virus. There is not deny pharmaceutical companies are making bank and causing problems, as mentioned earlier regarding some shortages. I can't recall how many times in the last six months in my ED have we been out of meds due to manufacture shortages. However to argue that medicine is based on little science and the drugs are of no use its ridiculous. Point in case is whooping cough - way to go vashon island. Suddenly young kids are dying from an easily preventable disease. Another case, how often do you hear of scarlet fever and associated cardiac issues? Very rare, because we have a great antibiotic against group A strep that prevents the infection from spreading. Of course the antibiotics are being over prescribed, and while a large amount of that is due to poor clinicians, a large chunk of that blame can be attributed to uneducated and sue happy patients. There was a great article in the New England Journal of Medicine recently that discussed the cultural change of Americans to believe that pain is a bad thing and should not be tolerated under any circumstances, and that if they are in any pain then their physician is not doing their job well. Now enter, narcotics and the associated addictions, overdoses, etc. Finally, anyone who has spent time working in medicine and science knows that it is not perfect. For anyone to think that something is always 100% safe and effective is living in a dream world; and same goes to anyone who thinks that side effects and outliers are 100% avoidable. Hope everyone has fun tearing this post apart - need to get back to studying behavioral medicine so I know how to deal with all you crazy fuckers in clinic
  5. 3 years ago I went 3 times to my physician, about feeling tired and having cyclical abdominal pain. He suggested I have elevated blood sugar levels, and wanted to prescribe statins and anti-depressants! It turned out at the end I was suffering from chronic appendicitis (for which his meds would do fuck all, except give me muscle cramps and muscle pain)! Fuck, if he just listened to what I was saying I could have taken 2 weeks of antibiotics instead of having emergency appendectomy with a price tag of 20K. Guess what- also my blood sugar returned to normal as well. No I take their advice, but I make decisions myself. In vast majority of cases of injuries I see daily, I would say physicians are about 25% right. In 75% they provide a bad advice. What were your presenting symptoms?
  6. So I was picking up some cord at mountain gear and was window shopping when I came across the OR Centrifuge. Wind/water resistant shoulder, top of sleeves and hood, breathable lightweight fleece underarm and back. Thumbloops, a couple pockets and hood. Pretty slick set up for windy and light snow approaches while hiking, skinning, etc. Anyone use it or something similar? I feel like a jacket like that could have a real good nitch. http://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/mens/jackets/mens-centrifuge-jacket.html
  7. As stated, about 2 years old, in great shape, no holes, tears or defects. Cheapest online retail is $99, so after shipping $60? Cheaper if local. Or make an offer. Will get some real pictures up shortly, looks like this: some of the pack in use: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/233361-Review-2011-12-Flylow-Quantum-Jacket?highlight=

  9. now i'm just dreaming about skiing powder. thanks.
  10. Its not only about size, its about shape! baa With that being said I did all my touring on a 112 underfoot ski last winter and loved it. I even took a 123 out on some nice pow days. You won't go wrong with anything 105-115, but having some rocker sure is nice to stay above the lovely crust that will inevitably form. Here's what i'm rocking (but in 187) with dynafits w/o brakes, comes to ~11 lbs total i'm 6'1" 175 for reference pm gear fat bro
  11. Oh and regarding durability, I used my previous pair for two seasons and didn't have a mark to show on them. They kept me plenty warm in 10 degree days in montana. Only reason I sold my old pair is due to them being slightly too big (i'm in idiot). I picked up a pair from gearx and they fit like a glove.
  12. http://gearx.com/la-sportiva-batura-evo-boots.html?googlebase&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&gclid=CMrxyIWwr7MCFe57QgodQB0A6g I picked my baturas up from here. Good price.
  13. If you already have warmer boots and will be using this new pair for summer alpine objectives, why not consider the trango extremes ?
  14. Good2Go, First off, I agree with you on a couple points. First, the fact that cilogear did not respond to your follow up emails is bad customer service. Second, how the back panel of your 20l worksac came apart is unfortunate, and from mine/other's experience very unique. I agree with you that the pack should have lasted much longer. I consider myself a fairly logical thinker and tend to forgo emotion, so let me ask you these questions: -Did you ever call cilogear directly? (This is requested on their website, under the link I posted) -Before sending them your pack, did you discuss with them what you were expecting? -Did you ask the manufacturer what the seam sealing was for or why they recommend it? I really do think you got a bum deal, which is too bad because my experience has been quite the opposite. I hope some resolution can be made since I know the cilogear ninja's read this site.
  15. how much for your sky blue pants from alaska?
  16. I'll start by saying that from my experience in retail/customer service/healthcare, the consumer/patient is always right. So the fact that cilogear isn't responding to your email is bad customer service. With that being said, every time I email them I get a quick response, including earlier this week. As a consumer you should also know about the company. On their about us page they explicitly state to call them. Additionally, in bold, it says we do not accept returns on NWD packs. http://www.cilogear.com/info.html And finally, my NWD 20L is three or four years old and I have abused the shit out of it, and the only hole is in one of external mesh pockets about a granite chimney. But then again I seam sealed mine.
  17. Good discussion from last month... http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1083125/1
  18. Hi Lowell, Thanks for the list, but interestingly, no sherpa peak?
  19. No compression straps for a pack that big kills it for me. That 26L looks nice and clean though, similar to what Dane uses from CCW.
  20. You guys are getting ahead of yourselves. Who is going to repeat this??? (thanks for the picture Mr. John Scurlock)
  21. So what didn't you like about the cilogear back that you bought?
  22. Right on, good luck on your trip. Post some pictures when you get back. Matt, unless I'm missing something it looks like the fires never came close to hyalite canyon? http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/photos/MTGNF/2012-08-28-17:12-millie-fire/picts/pict-20120928-095333-0.jpeg
  23. Thanks. I've been keeping an eye on montanaice.com too, looks like twin falls is starting to form up as well. My potential dates are 11/8-12, so still a few weeks out. What are you planning to do in the beartooths? Ice dragons? Funeral for a friend?
  24. Hey man, if you can keep the conditions updates coming. Thinking about heading out there in a couple weeks.
  25. Exactly. Anyone got one laying they aren't using?
