  2. We ended up slogging an extra 3.5 miles to the winter route trailhead. From there, the snow was pretty good, considering how hot it was. The last 1,000 ft or so to the crater rim was real deep and soupy but the rest was great corn skiing all the way back to tree line. The ranger said the road is not expected to melt out till July...4-6 weeks later than usual.
  3. Skiing St Helens was great Sat too. A bit hotter than we wanted but no signs of major slides on the winter route. Mushy & deep soup near the rim but really nice other than that, very consolidated.
  4. That is funny, I bet it's worth a lot more than $200 now. I forget what my dad said he paid for his back in the day but it sounds just like the one you describe... Cool western belt holster with all the little pockets for your ammo. I love that gun, might have to go shoot it soon just for fun. I still have lots of reloaded ammo but don't want to waste em as they are pretty spendy now. I don't really hunt anymore but like to go plinking once in a while, hardly a good gun for plinking though. Another time when I was a little kid in Wyoming my dad used to carry the 44 while we were out deer hunting, I think mainly just because he had it. He's sitting in the woods taking a dump when a buck comes strolling by within range so my old man pops one off from the cannon with his pants still down around his ankles and blows a huge hole in the buck. Good times... Mmm venison...
  5. I have a dream of someday being a real dirtbag success. I just need to work my way up the ladder by having the wife and kids leave, lose my home and job, learn how not to bathe and then I will have it made as a dirtbag.
  6. I don't think my wife would be so into that... I don't think I'd be eating crackers if she were in my bed...

    drugs

Having said all that - I couldn't help but wonder how people who intend to use heroin, meth, etc on a recreational basis go about evaluating their capacity to do so without getting hooked, ruining their lives, and dragging everyone they love through a multi-stage nightmare. I believe you when you say that there are people who can do so, and they are probably much more numerous than strict non-users like myself would believe - but to an outsider like me it seems like people who have a desire to try meth or heroin on a recreational basis might (on average) score fairly low on the impulse-control and ability-to-evaluate-risk-rationally scales. It just kind of makes me wonder how many folks have embarked on a plan to use these intensely addictive drugs have had things go badly awry? I'd bet doughnuts to dollars that zero percent of addicts intended to become addicts... Today, I think I'll start using crack, heroin and meth so i can ruin my life as well as the lives of all the people around me... I'm sure in every case, without exception, users thought they could beat the game and just experiment.

    MANSON

Better late than never? Please say you are joking.... No, I truly believe that a psycho path like Manson should be put to death. He can still influence people from in prison and could still pose a threat to other people. Have you ever heard the guy? He is a total nut job and should get the death penalty for all the horribly crimes he committed without so much of a whimper of regret about any of them. The dude is pure evil. I suppose we should just forgive and forget?
  9. Bump... anyone been up there this week? TIA

    MANSON

Better late than never on the death penalty for that nut job. He is one creepy dude...
  11. I'm also heading up there the 16th & 17th, just wondering how the road access is now? Still an extra 5 miles slog to the trailhead? Thanks! Dave
  12. Funny story: I had one of those almost 30 years ago, as a young lad fresh out of high school, back in my Dirty Harry days... The first time I took it out to shoot it, I struck a "Go ahead... Make my day" pose, complete with the hoarse whisper and Clint Squint. Pointing the weapon at the intended target with but a single hand, at arms length, a la Clint, I let fly with a slug. Goddamned thing whollopped me with the hammer. Left a big dent in the middle of my forehead that took weeks to heal. After that experieince, I always kept both hands on the wheel... Before I was born, my dad used to carry the 44 Mag in his old Volvo, with the holster belt slung around the steering column. He originally bought the gun as a just in case side arm for his extended fishing trips out in the remote bush country of Alaska. Anyway, as he tells it, one day the family was cruising along the Hwy, and some young punks started trying to run his car (with my mom, older brother & sis in it) off the road. My dad slowly started pulling the 44 out of the holster and got the long barrel about half way out before the would be ganstas put it in overdrive and high tailed it out of there. I've only shot the thing a handful of times and the thing is a cannon.
  13. Why? Cause she does not beat her children?

  16. So true. I have 2 very small children and discipline is quite important. At first my wife would never follow through on her threats of discipline (not beating them but discipling) and it was no surprise when the kids were running a muck. Sometimes, as a very last resort, when all other attempts of discipline have failed we will use the dreaded spanking. No, we are not beating the hell out of our kids but like Bill C has said before, it is a tool. I am also amazed at how well the spanking will work too. Kids NEED loving discipline and boundaries. Look around at how screwed up many of the adults are in our society, now they are raising kids of there own. Seems like a little more loving discipline could greatly improve our society as a whole. As it is, we have millions of adult spoiled brats running amuck. Kev, I'm not sure what your parents did to you, but you make it sound like they did beat the hell out of you. Hitting or beating a child (or any other person/pet) out of anger is not discipline, it is assault. My parents gave me spankings when I deserved it and I also remember it was never when they were mad and it always came with plenty of love and affection, as well as an explanation of why I got the spanking in the first place. I certainly don't use that tool nearly as much as the last generation has, but it is still a useful, though reluctant tool to have.

  18. Ruger Black Hawk 44 Magnum (In case I need to put a slug through an engine block or a big ol mean grissle bar), Winchester 30-06 w/scope, Winchester Model 12 pump 16 gauge shotgun, Remington bolt action 20 gauge shotgun, Ruger 22 Revolver 6 shooter and a nice pellet rifle. Maybe I should take up hunt'n sumpin? I suppose this is all on my permanent record/dosea?
  19. NOT SOON ENOUGH!!! Give it up already Hilary.
  20. Don't forget yer goggles. I beg your pardon, those are doggles, not goggles. Looks like a major prescription doggles to boot.
  21. You forgot guns are aid.
  22. STROKING OUT/TEMPLE BLOOD VESSEL BLOWING OUT BY SLAMMING AND SMACKING THE KEYBOARD WHILE ENGAGED ON A SPRAY DEBATE THREAD. Most likely thread is about: A) Ethics B) Your mom. C) Your penis size. D) Bolts. E) Infinite Bliss (interesting twist there eh!) ____________________________________________________________ Thats been my experince anyway. Now, the debate: which is safer, Mac or PC? You forgot smoking in the Muir Hut.
  23. I recently broke the metal toe mount section on my FreeRides when we had the last good powder dump a few weeks ago. After our first run I was skinning up some very steep stuff at a weird angle when it broke just under one front screw and also right next to the rear screw. It got torqued in a way it should not have. Although I could still use it in down hill mode it ended my day. I was able to fix it with a fabricated steel splint/shank gizmo and it seems to be holding up fine now. Although I will be sure to take it easy on them. That's what I get for buying used gear... get what ya pay fer! Bummer on the Naxo's though.
  24. Wow, those are some nice big horns!
