  1. Look what someone used to wake up to.
  2. True, but many older, Bozeman, MT can be found on E-Bay.
  3. Thanks, I like the first one best though.
  4. OK, I'll bite... Beacon Rock today. Christmas Day 2008. To bad all I had was my cell phone or the pics would have been much better quality, oh well.
  5. Too bad the 8.5 Mammuts were gone by the time I decided to snag one or two. It was there one minute and gone the next. Thanks for providing this valuable service though.
  6. There was a post not to long ago in the yard sale that had a nice Dana Terraplane for sale. I think he only wanted $50. Probably long gone by now though. Also, I've seen a lot of Dana packs on e-bay recently, some were really good deals, others were not. Love my old Astralplane but rarely get to use it anymore.

I had to post this picture [img:center]http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/01/07/dining/07squirrel3_500.jpg[/img] So what's the deal with hunting in a fancy schmancy suit though? Snobby Euro thing I suppose?
  9. Would be nice to have but not mandatory. You can always supplement by adding more layers. You certainly want a nice puffy down coat of some sort though.
  10. Exactly!
  11. Who cares?
  12. That depends... My favorite resort is Alta, but since that is out, Solitude is awesome too. Powder Mt is good for the powder and they do have a lot of intermediate terrain that you mentioned you were looking for. However, unless things have changed in the past few years, the lifts are old school and most are slow at Powder Mt. Powder Mt is really all about skiing the backside, which is not always open but a good place to be if it is open and they have fresh snow. If it is really cold and the snow is extra dry, I'd be sure to hit Snow Basin. It is an great mountain but is a bit lower than Alta/Bird and Powder Mt so they don't usually get quite as much, or as dry snow, unless it is nice and cold. Powder Mt and Alta get the biggest dumps. It gets skied out pretty quick at Alta but you can usually get some good, fresh powder at Powder Mt, even several days after a storm if you know where to look.
  13. WOW! Zat is imprezzive, NO?
  14. I grew up skiing Powder Mt, love the backside.
  15. Tent - If you choose to use your old tent, be sure the "shock cord" is in good shape. Better yet, have it all replaced with new shock cord. Otherwise, it can freeze when stretched and then becomes useless anti-shock cord. We had to cut all of ours off one year going up the Muldrow in order to put the poles together. I'd bring a few extra pole sections even if you do buy a new tent. TNF expedtion tents have served me well on quite a few trips in the Alaska Range but I'm sure there are some other really nice options these days. For a couple extra pounds I'd go for the 3 man, but I'm a glutton for over packing in the name of comfort. Stoves - If it were me, I'd bring at least 2 of the same type and a full expedition repair kit with plenty of spare parts. We had 3 MSRs (2 Dragonflies and 1 XGK) and we were lucky to have 2 running at one time. Constantly taking them apart and fixing them was the routine. On another trip, the pilot who dropped us off in Kantishna also dropped our brand new XGK pump for one of the two stoves we brought and broke it. That left us with no spare so we ended up borrowing his survival canister stove out of his plane to use as our back up stove. Our primary pump & stove never failed so we did not have to use his canister stove on the trip, which I've heard don't do so well at altitude. Shovels - A lot of people swear by the huge aluminum scoop wood handle jobs but they do weigh a shit ton. However, you can certainly get a lot more done in short order with it than a regular ski shovel. Whatever you bring, don't bring a plastic bladed one or you risk it freezing and breaking.
  16. When we were kids back in the 80's some of the neighborhood crew were making pipe bombs and blowing up dumpsters and the like. It did not take long to have the local police trying to piece fragments together to try and get finger prints. In the end, some fines were handed out and some community service was done by those juvenile delinquents. A lot has changed since then so I can only imagine it is a far more serious endeavor if one gets caught with any sort of bomb type device these days. Even back then it was still a serious felony.
  17. PBR is the only decent schwag beer for me. Maybe a Ranyeah if PBR is not available.
  18. Constructing and igniting infernal machines is still a serious felony as far as I know. Sure is fun though, um, so I've heard anyway.

  20. And I thought the backcountry was dangerous.
  21. The Dude abides! Might have to rent that one later today.
  22. Seems like a pretty dumb question when we all know the best climbing in Portland is in Washington. I'm sure even you knew that Kev. Happy New Year!
  23. Better not waste any of that precious ammo on plinking targets Bill. Might need them for the upcoming armegeddon.
  24. This must be the beginning of the end of the world in 2012.
