$700 for boots is still pretty stiff, IMO. I thought I got a bargain on some new AT boots last year at $325. Gotta know exactly what you want and look for the deals, be sure to snag them when they pop up.

So I'm sitting here wasting time on cc.com and drinking my coffee when I get a call from a buddy. He tells me he is aid soloing Windsurfer and he just got a call from WA State Troopers demanding he come down right now so they can speak to him about "what just happened in the bathroom". I guess buddy calls me in case he needs to be bailed out or something. I figure someone was smoking dope in the bathroom and they are trying to pin it on him (but I don't think buddy even smokes dope). Anyway, he tells me it turns out to be a bomb threat. Something about a suspicious package found in the bathroom. The whole place is closed off while they investigate so don't bother heading over there if you had plans of a rainy suffer-fest today. Of all the places to bomb, why would someone choose to bomb the bathroom at Beacon Rock? Anyone heard from Ivan today?

Glue diamonds on them. I prefer platinum, with the diamond tips, of course.

Personally, I'd much rather pack an extra 16 ounces (or so) and have a bomber shelter that is free standing and plenty roomy for one, tight but workable for two. I have an old Sierra Designs (Sphynx I think) that weighs just over 3lbs and although it is a "3 season" tent, I have used it on plenty of winter trips and it did well, although a bit cool due to the extra venting it has. It sets up in a minute or two and is very bomber in the wind. To bad they don't make that model anymore. I lived in it for 3 months my first summer in Alaska and it rained most of the summer that year. I suppose the tarp tent has it's place but not for me. If I really want to save weight, I'll just use a bivy.

Nothing to exciting. I thought the Gatorade bottle was yours. I heard it falling down from somewhere and it scared the crap out of me as I first thought it was a rock coming down. I only little gear there. Looks like it will be pretty wet Sunday so good thing you got it done today.

Nice TR. Funny how everyone says that the rock at RR is choas. I started climbing there and it never bothered me. Well, some of the lighter colored sandstone can be bad but the darker the better. Taken plenty of falls on all of it back in the day, never had any gear fail due to rock blowing out. Glad you had a good trip. Anyone going to be in Red Rocks next month? I will be there from Feb 18-24th and hoping to get on some of the sun blessed longer classics.

Sounds like you need to tune in to the new show "Dog Whisperer" on the Nat Geo channel. Dude comes in and magically corrects dog behavior issues by teaching dog owners to think like a dog instead of treating them like humans. I don't watch much TV but now that my DishNet receiver is on the fritz I only get one channel and that show seems to be on whenever I turn on the tube.

Why charge him when it seems easier to just lock him up and throw away the key?

True, but many older, Bozeman, MT can be found on E-Bay.

Thanks, I like the first one best though.

OK, I'll bite... Beacon Rock today. Christmas Day 2008. To bad all I had was my cell phone or the pics would have been much better quality, oh well.

Too bad the 8.5 Mammuts were gone by the time I decided to snag one or two. It was there one minute and gone the next. Thanks for providing this valuable service though.

There was a post not to long ago in the yard sale that had a nice Dana Terraplane for sale. I think he only wanted $50. Probably long gone by now though. Also, I've seen a lot of Dana packs on e-bay recently, some were really good deals, others were not. Love my old Astralplane but rarely get to use it anymore.

I had to post this picture [img:center]http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/01/07/dining/07squirrel3_500.jpg[/img] So what's the deal with hunting in a fancy schmancy suit though? Snobby Euro thing I suppose?

Would be nice to have but not mandatory. You can always supplement by adding more layers. You certainly want a nice puffy down coat of some sort though.

That depends... My favorite resort is Alta, but since that is out, Solitude is awesome too. Powder Mt is good for the powder and they do have a lot of intermediate terrain that you mentioned you were looking for. However, unless things have changed in the past few years, the lifts are old school and most are slow at Powder Mt. Powder Mt is really all about skiing the backside, which is not always open but a good place to be if it is open and they have fresh snow. If it is really cold and the snow is extra dry, I'd be sure to hit Snow Basin. It is an great mountain but is a bit lower than Alta/Bird and Powder Mt so they don't usually get quite as much, or as dry snow, unless it is nice and cold. Powder Mt and Alta get the biggest dumps. It gets skied out pretty quick at Alta but you can usually get some good, fresh powder at Powder Mt, even several days after a storm if you know where to look.
