  4. This belongs in the "state the obvious thread". Duh.
  5. Everyone must be climbing. Try again in the fall.
  6. How about www.chestbeaters.com lol
  7. At least thats what the meat producers would have us believe. Examine health data from countries that eat less meat than Americans and you'll see a different story.
  8. Where is your trip report, Dr. Jones?
  9. Thats a spitting image of it

    Veggie Booty Call

Sources, please. This has to be bullshit. I worked in a mill that used both recycled paper and raw wood to make pulp. I can assure you, it is much easier to reclaim the paper fibre from recycled paper than to create it from raw wood. Basically, add water to the paper, run it through a blender, filter it and voila! Compared to grinding a tree down into pulp, there is no contest.
  12. This might make sense if they weren't chopping down and **burning** entire forests of carbon absorbing trees to grow the cattle feed.
  13. Who's up for trying this again... As suggested before, Waldorf Hotel seems central and divey and doesn't serve sausages, just cheap beer. Tues, Jul 24, 8:00pm Who's in? Google Map to the Waldorf
  14. This should be in the "State the obvious" thread. Here, we are talking about lessening our impact.
  15. The soy is used for cattle feed. Also interesting, te USDA permits more pesticides to be sprayed on crops destined for livestock feed than that destined for human consumption. I'm no biologist, but doesn't alot of that end up concentrated in the fat of the animal which is then consumed as part of my hamburger? Not to mention all the steriods and antibiotics they pump into these cows to beef them up and protect from disease due to the fact they are raised in brutal, overcrowded conditions. Also, raising livestock creates alot of pollution in the form of liquid waste that gets dumped into lakes, rivers and groundwater. Wanna make a difference in global warming, pollution, your personal health and animal welfare all at the same time? Eat two vegetarian meals per week.
  16. I would suggest that as rock climbing becomes more and more popular, the "medium" grade is going down. When was the last time you lined up to get on a 5.13? I would say the average climber leads 5.9 to 5.10-, with relatively few leading 5.13 and up compared to the masses of 5.7/8 leaders.
  17. Seriously, though, "Self Rescue" by David Fasulo is a pretty good read that covers all of the basics.
  18. Carry a knife so you can do a Joe Simpson on him and be home in time for dinner.

Are those space pants? Cuz your ass is out of this world!
  21. Is that brown stuff in the one photo clearcut? Thats not unrivaled scenery, plenty of those right here in BC.
  22. I usually don't boil snow melt. I have had some dirty spring snow melt, though. If you want to be really safe you should treat it. I like this stuff: http://pristine.ca/
  23. I suggest you pick up a copy of Kevin Macleans guide. It lays all this out for you. Basically, there isn't much sport below 5.10 in Squamish, but you will find the few at: Raven's Castle Upper Malamute (now off limits due to logging dispute) A few bolted lines in the Blind Channel area (Smoke Bluffs) e.g. Hamish's Mid fifth mutipitch: Diedre (get there earlier than all the people who are getting there early or be prepared for the gong show/clusterfuck of all the other n00b mid-fifth leaders on their first multi-pitch) Banana Peel - good alternate if Diedre is clusterfucked by the time you get there. That's aboot it.

    Anyone?

f Yeah, especially when you are reading through other people's code. Gooooood times. There are people out there who still think V.I. is a good code editor. Sick bastards.
  25. That and the Log Drivers Waltz. Warning, these are songs that stick in your head and you will take to your grave. Clips at: http://www.nfb.ca/portraits/hommage/wade/index1.html
