Try a heel lifter...small insert that lifts up the heel. Snug fit, no heel lifting, no blister. Or you could just try tightening your boots tight enough so your heel doesn't lift. Your boots should be tied almost so tight that they hurt - once you start walking, they'll loosen up a bit and be perfect.

Why are aluminum strap-ons so expensive? Seems to me, something made out of recycled pop cans should be cheaper.

What the heck is up with the constant line-up on St. Vitus Dance? Its getting as bad as Diedre. When I finally got on it, I ended up dissappointed, not cuz its a bad climb, but probably cuz it is a bit over-hyped.

"Steel cut" oats is just whole grain oats (or "oat groats"), but chopped into bitty pieces by a sharp steel blade. Has all the health benefits of eating the whole grain, but cooks way faster. I buy oat groats. I cook them by putting it in a thermos with an appropriate amount of hot water and salt before I go to bed. In the morning, they are cooked soft. 30 sec in the microwave returns them to piping hot. I eat them with cinammon, brown sugar and soy milk. Mmmmm. I think the flax oil and maple syrop are excellent ideas, tomorrow I will try those (and drop the brown sugar). I have had this breakfast in the mountains, just add a bit of hot water in the morning instead of microwaving to warm it up. makes it a bit liquidy, but I usually can use the hydration anyway. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I've been cold on summer mountaineering trips with a 10 degree bag (in poor weather, obviously). I think there is great variation in whether people sleep "hot" or "cold", so take the advice you get here with that in mind. It sounds like you understand the risks and potential consequences of carrying down. I have seen many people use down successfully. On longer trips in extended wet weather, however, even the most careful will notice their bag loses a bit of loft each successive wet day.

I was travelling for work this week, and ended up in Alabama the evening of game 1 vrs Ducks. So I know of what you speak and agree.

Americans are welcome to post in this thread. I just didn't think they would give a shit about Hockey Night *In Canada* down there. So sorry, my American friends (Do I have enough posts to use the word 'friends'?). Title changed.

OK, so I am watching the Canucks vrs Ducks game on Hockey Night In Canada and there's Ron MacLean and Kelly Hrudy promoting this commercial product "Blade Tape" (http://www.bladetape.ca/) during the "Behind the Mask" segment. WTF???!! Since when is Hockey Night in Canada going all commercial?? Is nothing sacred? Edited to change thread title

The other choice would be: "I am naive enough to think a prussick or autoblock would keep me from rappelling off the end"

My company web filter has blocked that site...is it pron?

That would increase the number in the room tenfold...given how many different Avatars some people have here.

That page is the most piss-weak blog on global warming I have ever seen. Whats with all the links opn the page that take you to the same page? WTF? Stuff you can do to end global warming: -eat less meat (or none at all) -drive less, drive a fuel efficient vehicle, bike more -plant a tree -turn the lights off, heat down -invest in companies developing fuel efficient technology or alternate energy sources -encourage your politicians to take Global Warming 2007 seriously -encourage Global Warming 2007 discourse - no one country can solve this problem

I happen to like coffee. I also happen to like chips, salsa AND crackers. What to do, what to do...anyway, not a problem right now as my rack is already plenty big. Actually, the #11 was a gift; I probably wouldn't have bought it myself.

I've used a toy squirt gun as an alpine bidet. Works well, more comfortable than snow. Although its not a bad idea to do one wipe firts with snow to get the big chunks out.

I have recently been enlightened to the glory of tri-cams. If I were to build my rack again, I would consider getting tri-cams instead of stoppers. Thoughts? I love hexes, too, for lightening up on those long approaches and/or doubling up on large cams. I have 8, 9, 10 and 11 hexcentrics.
