when in May are you coming down here? I might be going to AK in June so a climb of LR in late May would work well for me. I should have time for some other "get to know ya" climbs before then. let me know if you are still coming down.

WTF is your current avatar supposed to be?

[TR] Guye Peak West Face Ski Descent- West Face 3/12/2006
RocNoggin replied to Jens's topic in the *freshiezone*
great job guys! I climbed that route last summer and I can see how it would go, but WOW! hell of a nice job! -
any approximate dates for the trip yet?
-
Petzl makes a special toe bail for tele boots and I was told that Grivel does too. the tele bail can be used on any of their crampons that use a toe bail.

thanks for posting the TR Mike and especially for dragging my ass up the NF!! I was just thinking about that day, 20 hours of climbing and only two liters of water, no wonders I was cramping so bad. :-( I havent downloaded my pics yet. I wont be able to do that till I get home this weekend. I will try to get some of them posted here as well. to anyone else who is thinking about this climb I would say as long as there is snow approach from the White Salmon lodge at the Mt Baker Ski Area! we came in from that snow park below the ski area and it sucked!! on the way out we went to the ski area and it was so much faster and easier. there was no way I wanted to retrace our approach route on the way out. Mike, did you guys follow our approach all he way out or make some changes? really fun weekend, I am still so tired today, great climb! :-)

the amount of snow at the resorts has nothing to do with whether they stay open or close. once spring gets here and the days get warm and sunny most people stop skiing and start doing other things. while you are right, there still are lots of people still skiing, there just arent enough to support the economics of operating a ski resort. they are in it for the money, not for the great skiing.
-
great job guys! umm, I was sledding below the falls, the bottom was crusty all afternoon. watched everyone ski by with envy, even on that crusty snow at the bottom! LOL

do we have a time set for the prefunk activities to start? noon maybe???
-
yeah, I bet you do...
-
awesome show, great pics! they got so lucky with the weather! looking at their pics it would be easy to get fooled into thinking those were typical seasonal conditions! unbelievable amount of blue sky and sunshine, nice...
-
geez, someone might get the idea that you like that place...

[TR] Chair Peak- NE Buttress 2/11/2006
RocNoggin replied to silent_partner34's topic in Alpine Lakes
nice job! thanks for the report, glad you had a good time. and how could you not be sold on alpine climbing after a perfect day like that?! LOL -
I will be in the Mt Baker area through Tue and looking for partners to do something up there if you are interested.

check the forecast, snow by Tuesday! :-) -
myself and a climbing partner are very interested in the NW Buttress. I sent a PM. let me know if there is other interest. cheers, Brian :-)

Space blankets on sleeping pads to increase warmth
RocNoggin replied to darstog's topic in The Gear Critic
I have heard that space blankets become absolutely worthless if they are wet. has anyone heard anything about this? -
thanks Mike. I checked out the blogspot, very nice. :-)
-
thats not "too deep", thats just snow that is too wet and heavy! the Baker ski area is now reporting almost 300" for the month of Jan alone!!
-
something else to consider is to save money for a lesson. you will learn so much more, and faster, if you take a lesson. after that go practice what you learned skinning up at the resorts, like Hyak, when they are closed. eventually you will get the skills to try the BC when the conditions are good. and someday when they are bad. but even when the BC is bad it is still better than a resort! LOL

nice job! great pics, thanks for the TR.
