  4. I like to have an almost empty chalk ball in the loose chalk... When the long weekend in the hills sucks up lots of chalk, the CB seems to have just enuff remaining dust despite all the loose chalk being nearly gone (except also pine needles, gravel, etc).
  5. Nice TR! glad to hear about all the positive energy. Thanks for sharing Mark! Why do I doubt the sunny and nice statement?
  6. Annoying that the pic is on other page. Is it this that popular 5.6/7 route skyline ridge climb?
  7. Nice pic in Climbing Magazine this month of you on a 2 pitch/turned into 1 pitch climb Jens. Suppose thats you. Didn't seem lame or dumb to me, looked sporting as hell, abiet runout in the pic. Schweet schweet granite! I believe that is the "other" northwest Jens (Jens Holsten). From Ltown area??
  8. Nice pic in Climbing Magazine this month of you on a 2 pitch/turned into 1 pitch climb Jens. Suppose thats you. Didn't seem lame or dumb to me, looked sporting as hell, abiet runout in the pic. Schweet schweet granite! scan photo and post it here please! zonk, I will call on Sunday if dry...be in Eburg Monday...most the day..maybe disVantage?....
  9. I heard (maybe here on cc.com) that more money was spent on the investigation of Clinton's sexual exploits and other scandals than was spent on 911 investigation (~30million vs. ~12million)... Do you think that the powers in good 'ole USA are willing to dole out that kind of cash on president shrub?? Edit: got distracted here at work and finally posted this prior to reading (still reading) all the good points. Impeachment would be a waste of time/money and furthermore, it would never happen...
  10. Enough daylight to get anything done....hmmmm. (Damn) SNevada Mtn Range blocking the sun early in the day...CHECK. Maybe this spring when the sun cooperates I will fly down and join yah on the oak/manzanitta thrashing and crack hunting. Good luck with L Granite and family, they are a real pain in the buttocks.
  11. For mt stuart area: Click this link
  12. Hey Zonk, Get off your @ss and climb somethin at the Docs house or get in touch with my friend. I will be in Ltown this weekend. Maybe we can climb something. cheers....
  13. Was FB laying in the trail/panting and calling for any available girls? A coworker of mine ran into him awhile back and described the encounter just like that. Mark is the king of enthusiasm.
  14. Hey Lance are the pics in that area that requires a machette? I mean 20' from a trade route can be F'n brutal in the desert. Situps are so fun...almost as much fun as climbing on an indoor wall. I wanna come back. What is the work schedule looking like? I think seattle may actually flood away soon.... Save me. your pal, Bwrts
  15. In other words SC, perhaps we should get the State Park to remove the damn gate, then no one would have to lock or open it and there would be no parking on the road problem...Hmmmm.
  16. Most definitely! jens, do you like the single pitch climbs at midnight? How about the cookie cliff in Yos? Ever been to freemont cyn? Try a few laps a donner summit or anywhere around tahoe with trad gear. Am I sensing a troll?
  17. Ok, Thanks I remember now. I meant, what about gas hydrates, which occur in the polar regions and ocean floor. I recall from my oceanography class these little buggers are typically methane (ethane, CO2 or H2S as well) caged by water molecules and form at High Pressures and Low Temperatures (favorable stabilazation conditions). They are found on the seafloor continental shelves or slopes and permafrost of polar regions. Hydrates are agents of climatic change. That is, if sea levels lower (during glaciation), hydrates destabilize and the earth Temp trends shift towards global warming. If the sea levels raise, (during deglaciation), presure increases on the ocean floor and consequently is more suitable for gas hydrate formation. This may reduce global atmospheric methane levels and promote global cooling. However, the continental hydrates typically are not recaged very easily when the permafrost continues to thaw. The point I was trying to say, was cycles are continuing constantly. The Earth was warm once, hot even. And it will be hot again. Just like another Ice Age will engulf our continents again. Of course, sofnwhat. The warming trend is accelerating at a rate faster than ever observed before. Yes this sucks. But there are so many things adding to the problem, really ALL of us would need to stop everything NOW and go live in caves (like they do in Afghanastan to avoid US marine heat.) But that means no computers, tv, radios, cars, trucks, cell phones, etc. or even a new Patagonia jacket or Mammut rope. I bet most if not all of you are not willing to give up such luxuries. I know I am not. Life is grand and awesome...love every day so I say make the most of it cuz really we are all doomed. The earth will soon remove us since we are merely a parasite feeding on her mojo and juju. btw: Just because the Modern Cascades did not exist during the Permian when the Vantage Ginkgo forest may have sprung up does not mean that the protoCascades did not funnel weather around like the Olympics do to modern towns like Darrington vs. Bellingham. Thanks for the geo lesson on tectonics though, I am impressed with your vast array of knowledge. Seriously. and also, the link to the pdf file does not work on my pc. Where did it come from? ? Please type path to follow from website as I do want to find it myself. Thanks. Goatboy: I am not a climate changing skeptic. I do believe the earth is changing and getting warmer. Thanks for the link. It looks like a long waste of time and I am intrigued.
  18. my friend in portland is great friends with Neko, do you want her number.....
  19. My understanding of Gore's use of profits from the movie is to use that money to train others globally to deliver the slideshow on which it is based and to foster more widespread delivery of the global message. I'm wondering if you have any ill-informed, cynical, or self-righteous comments to make about that fact, bwrts? Thanks. It should still be free. Like perhaps on PBS. Edit: I am not a supporter of the BUSH policy. I am merely playing devil's advocate and stating known facts. I know of no proof that shows climatic global warming is indeed sped up by our human endeavors; in comparison to the Permian period or Eocene epoch. NOT to say that what we do contributes, but seriously, consider that Eastern WA used to be a lush jungle with Ginko trees, etc. Last time I checked in modern human existance this was not the case. Sure mr Gore has valid points to make, but if he truly believes in his message I would think he would make it more assessible to ALL people and not take the "buy your movie ticket to see my message" or "buy my dvd" approach to deliver his Inconvenient Truth message. Studies have been occurring on this matter for decades with published books...mr Gore is not the "inventor of this internet", he is very loud and I do think its great....just wish he would make it more assessible and FREE. Edit2: tvashtarkatena ===> The gas bubbles.....Hmmm, I remember something about these in my oceanography and glaciology courses at WWU... Do you have links to expand my knowledge or should I believe what you typed? What about the trapped Methane bubbles? where did they come from? And whomever said I listen to rove or murdoch, perhaps you should know I do not watch fox news nor have cable...so, I am unclear about why you assume I am a brainwashed American.
  20. If you did the direct 10B start you climb on a route called RPM not Remorse. I do not think denalidevo was braggin about a speed record mr Smithisnotheaven. Either way who gives a FK? Has anyone ever climbed Outerspace, Orbit and MaryJane in a day??? I have done OS and MJ and OB and OS in a day, but never all 3...
  21. Thinking about this movie...If mr Gore was really serious he would make this a free movie and also promote this to all the schools with free showings and ultimately, not make his money back. The big wheel of human consumption is still being turned....no matter what mr Gore has to say. What are we going to do, live in caves and watch it rain away the glaciers? Hell no, I doubt PCs will work very well with silicacious rocks...and no STARBUCKS! course, then we would be forced into using EBs and hemp goldlines, right mr RuMR..!?
  22. Well they sold the damn orchard in the first place. Besides it won't be long before all the orchards are redeveloped into estates for all the westsiders and california folk to move into for weekend getaways. I was always under the impression the park did not officially close as well but I have heard of numerous occasions where people are climbing on vivible crags (ie martian slab, orchard rock) and were called down by sheriff deputies (ticketed? do not know). I myself have been climbing there on many occassions without incident in the off-season. Parked near the gate, across the street and even down the street. Climbing on less-vivisible crags and wearing sandstone colored duds helps a lot. (I am not supporting poaching...just fueling the minifire).
  23. One thing that the media fails to portray is the fact that the increase in earth's temp is a natural cycle which has taken place long before the first combustion engine puffed out CO and other earthwarming gasses. Climatic records only go so far back in human history yet glaciers have been retreating and advancing for longer. This has been displayed in numerous world locations in the geologic record. Sure we are helping the process but how much did a dinosaur fart contribute in comparison? Regardless, the fact remains true, glaciers are shrinking faster now then any other recorded modern time. The big issue is not the loss of ice mass but really the issues of raising global ocean levels, more frequent severe weather and ultimately exponential growth of human populations (yes unrelated to the glaciers, but won't the population increase speed up the problems even more?). I wonder what other countries are doing in prepartation...
  24. hah, I heard he was climbing Y2K with some local yocals last weekend in Red Rocks, NV. Did you get to see his show? performance was real entertaining...ended the set with a bunch of loudly bellowed FU's Thats when I knew he was an angst ridden psychopath like all us other bens' BTW- druL where the hell did you see that crag? comeon drop the hints man....
