Washington, DC. (AP) Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) released a statement earlier today, declaring "Our President is not a war criminal, as some have asserted. He has been painted as an evil perpetrator of an unjust war by the media and many of his political adversaries. However, the democratic leadership in congress stands firmly behind him, believing him to be the victim of bad intelligence. We will work together with President Bush to support him in this time of trial and exonerate him of the charge of 'war criminal.' We believe that it is never proper to blame the victim in cases such as these."
Reid released this statement shortly after President Bush announced he would be changing his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat. This sudden development was expected to be received as a purely political move, and harsh criticism was expected from top Democrats. However, once they realized Bush was now one of them, they stood behind him completely.
