  1. it's a waste of weight to me because generally, no cougar is going to attack a group of people in the first place, and if you're alone you will likely not get enough warning to be able to use it. help me, ivan's tauntaun, you're my only hope!
  2. wonder if you could walk in to REI or another retail shop and use theirs?

  11. now that all depends on you, doesn't it? the prospect of scraping a few cells off an old fogey and fixing his problem is pretty awesome. what good does embryonic stem cells do those of us who have progressed beyond the embryonic stage of life? ok, maybe they can grow an organ for me someday but I'd still suffer the trials of being an organ recipient & all the anti-rejection meds because the new cells are from somebody else. even if you did have a couple of your embryo cells saved, this new process eliminates the 80 years of storage in the freezer, which would be a huge waste of energy.
  12. link Washington, DC. (AP) Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) released a statement earlier today, declaring "Our President is not a war criminal, as some have asserted. He has been painted as an evil perpetrator of an unjust war by the media and many of his political adversaries. However, the democratic leadership in congress stands firmly behind him, believing him to be the victim of bad intelligence. We will work together with President Bush to support him in this time of trial and exonerate him of the charge of 'war criminal.' We believe that it is never proper to blame the victim in cases such as these." Reid released this statement shortly after President Bush announced he would be changing his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat. This sudden development was expected to be received as a purely political move, and harsh criticism was expected from top Democrats. However, once they realized Bush was now one of them, they stood behind him completely.
  13. Anyone have experiences with the "nalgene" brand? I want one 'cause it hooks in to my purifier. I've had a platypus for ~4 years sans problems (unless you count difficulty of preventing it from becoming a popular microbial habitation) and as far as taste goes, yes platypus is relatively tasteless while my fiancee's camelback tastes plastic-ish

  16. If there's one thing we should all know by now living in America, it's that money=power. Those who perpetually advocate bigger government in terms of money should be prepared to accept the terms of power that go with it. I just said "cc.commie" because it sounds funny.
  17. hehe, maybe this whole Iraq mess HAS done some unexpected good... to make the cc.commies re-think the federal deity they created

  19. chucK, I know you can present a better rebuttal of the school funding problem than saying "my way of taxation or no taxation at all." I wasn't claiming that we should do away with school funding, so presenting my position as such only serves to make it easy to shoot me down. Seriously, I believe it's the single biggest flaw of property tax, and it serves to perpetuate wealth by providing rich communities with better education systems to help their kids get better paying jobs and become rich too. I would be very much in favor of replacing property tax with a state income tax. Just because Federal income tax is complicated doesn't mean a state income tax would have to be complicated. Recycled didn't seem to give income tax a fair treatment in his "analysis" so I didn't give his "argument" much weight.
  20. seriously. that's some Enron-like budget smokescreening! I really hate the dishonesty behind that claim, since it's sure to make poor uneducated schmucks actually believe things are going well financially.
  21. not really sure where you got the idea that you deserve a response, O King Thoughtful Rebutter G-spotter, here's your car analogy shoot-down: the fees for owning a car are actually nil (i think, feel free to prove me wrong). there's no tax that anybody owes for simply having a car sit on their property & be driven to and from the mailbox. sales tax applies to any good/service, so that's a given. there's registration & insurance requirements for actually driving on public roads, and that makes a lot of sense. but none simply because of the fact you own it. chucK, I agree with your sentiment that taxes should be levied ideally against those who benefit most, but your examples don't fly. owning property fundamentally has nothing to do with city services, as you get a bill for those in the mail. if that doesn't cover the costs associated with the services, then increase the rates. taxing for school funding is bound to be inequitable because the more kids you have, the less money you have to send them to school. no way to make that one really work by taxing those who benefit most, so I'd favor that being rolled in to a state income tax. in fact, the whole premise of basing school funding on property taxes & levies contributes to the unequal funding for schools that the average liberal whines about until he/she's blue in the face. ever wondered why rich communities have more money for school when their funding comes from rich people? whew, that's a stumper! property tax is pure BS, and I'm surprised how many people actually support it.
  22. am I drunk? I don't see any demeaning reference to KkkKk in this post...
  23. the government has a lot of really dumb policies that seem only to hurt it in terms of $$$ they could make some coin with an auction or something, but they'd rather dump it? proof that elected officials generally lack intelligence.
