(from an email received 10/30/08):
Fall has arrived here in Ouray. The San Juans received a little more than
a foot of snow and ice will soon be forming in the backcountry gullies.
With the changing of the seasons it’s time for us to send out information
on the Ouray Ice Park and 2009 Ouray Ice Festival. The Fest kicks off on
Thursday night, January 8, with our first slide show presentation by
Ouray's own Clint Cook.
Your continued support has helped the Ouray Ice Park to:
* order the piping for the new ?Got-Stump? area; which will add 12 new
climbs to the gorge
* create trails to the new section as this letter goes out
* increase the size of the pipe that delivers water to the ice park.
More volume = fatter ice
* offer lighted evening climbing for families and kids on the 3rd Saturday
of each month
On the Fest side:
* This year we have over 500 instructional clinic spots open for the
general public to participate in
* Clinic registration will open on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 9:00 a.m.
mountain time
* Great evening slideshows, being presented by Clint Cook, Raphael
Slawinski, Maxime Tugeon and Mike Libecki
* Silent and Live Auctions and a new online auction
* Great food and after hour parties
* The kids climbing college is back for its 4th year
* Mic'ed demos with the world’s best climbers
* Great climbing camaraderie
Use of the park remains free, but help is always needed. Funding for
operation and expansion continues to be a challenge that is only met by
relentless volunteer work and voluntary contributions. Visit
www.ourayicepark.com for more information and to join. The revenue
received from members enables the Ice Park to continue as a free climbing
facility and helps the park pay for annual expansion and improvements.
Your membership also provides the cardholder discounts at many local
lodges, restaurants and merchants.
