  1. Partners falling through left and right. Plan: meet up at Strobach early saturday morning, hike in, climb, camp, have a huge ass fire, wake up, cilmb sunday, head back to PDX. Would prefer to have a partner that can follow WI5 but not necessary. Also would be helpful to have a few screws and another ice line. email or pM bryan.m.schmitz AT GMAIL Cheers, Bryan. P.s. its my birthday weekend so I am really hoping that someone can go. p.p.s sorry girls but the girlfriend has banned me from going on overnight trips with girls.
  2. You rope up for whitetail? Rock creek is an awesome place. and the alpine rock climbing there is sweet cause all the descents are walk offs down whitetail pass
  3. Solo'd mist and a few other rambles in the gully above deer hunter. Mist is pretty thin and I wouldn't recommend hanging out at the base due to the projectiles from above. The rambles were fun and could probably be protected. I got a 16 cm v thread in solid ice. Overall fun day. Anything with water volume was no where close. Black dagger had a ton if ice on it. But not climbable in these temps. It was 34 out. Forecast doesn't look promising. Bryan
  4. I only got a look at the first 20 feet last night, but that looks similar. However, it was warming all night and continue to do so, pretty sure that will all fall down soon.
  5. anyone seen any climbable ice in the gorge? Look like tonight could be chance before it gets warm...
  6. I bet code red is in good shape if Killer pillar looks that fat...
  7. As we discussed slogging our way up to the palm yesterday: 1. Atlantis, The Needles with Layton 2. Black Elk on Warbonnet with Layton 3. Polar Circus 4. Fine Line on the Perch 5. Any day at Trout Creek Bryan
  8. does anyone want to climb ice?
  9. Bump. I am still looking. Any takers? I am driving from pdx to strobach in the morning. Let's climb some ice.
  10. Shoot me an email if interested.....please be able to follow WI5 or 5+. Thinking strobach so you want slow shoes as well. If I can I want to make a two day trip out of it into strobach. Hike in early saturday camp and climb sunday then hike out and backto pdx...... Cheers, Bryan Schmitz bryan.m.schmitz AT GMAIL
  11. anyone go to strobach this weekend?
  12. did you hit up south point? Great place to take a 30 footer into the ocean and the rock is actually decent enough to do some short DWS...
  13. Anybody know the weather station link to the one that is up on Dome peak? I thought Rad posted it in an older strobach thread a year back or so....
  14. the beehive is great for backcountry skiing, but the ice is not consistent enough to make plans. The ice in beehiveis melt thaw and best in the early spring when snow conditions are more stable. The ice around bigsky is short and lame. Go to hylite its worth your buck. Also consider the window rock cabin up in hylite just past the lake, it is an often overlooked accommodation. Then you wouldn't even have to drive back into town. I actually think it is less then $50 a night which is cheap if your got a couple others with you. Have fun Bryan
  15. From bigsky to the hylite parking lot is more like a two hour drive..... minimum 50 minutes from Bigsky to Bozeman and then another 45 to get into the canyon depending on road conditions... I went to school there, so unless you got a helicopter I wouldn't recommend that drive. Also that road between bigsky and bozeman is the most dangerous in montana. There are plenty of cheap hotels and hostels in Bozeman
  16. Looks like a great day!
  17. check the mountain project...more geared toward the Rockies and Colorado than here.
  18. Get it while the snow is minimal. Such a different experience then my previous ascent. Highly recommend the earlier season ascent when turning the pencil doesn't have the avy hazard it does the rest of the season. Thanks John, for a great partner to make it possible.
  19. Sounds like a good day. Can't believe you drove the red devil all the way up there. Any pics of the sandcastles?
