  1. I'm going up from Bellingham to Whistler Thursday, with a stop at MEC on the return. I've never been to either before, how long of a drive should I plan for? Should I follow the Whistler webpage's directions... or is there a way to avoid downtwn Vancouver? Any advice on whether Whistler or Blackcomb mtns are better at this coverage level? IF I were to stop at an MEC, is Van or N.Van the place? Thanks!
  2. That's crazy. I was there on saturday and had a little epic out there. The snow in your pic seems a lot more consolidated than when we were were there. We spent about an hour and a half booting it back up from the lake to the saddle, snow was too deep/steep for skins.

  5. then they suck Rando Skis- Remove skins (skis remain on) Lock Heels Go. Split- Take off split skis Remove Skins Join Board Step into bindings. Hey, how does one remove skins with the skis still on? Also, I tried out your skis in the Baker backcountry on saturday, and the gear worked smoothly... thanks again!
  6. yeah, thanks. After a day of shopping in PDX I learned a few things. A.when the chubby red-haired REI "ski expert" tells you that the waxpaper glue-renews are "cheat sheets" she is full of shit, but trying to correct her is pointless. B. The Mountain Shop employees seem like good guys, and even called OMC to ask if OMC had cheat sheets in stock. C. OMC had them in stock. Mountain Shop OMC REI
  7. Where's that footage at? looks a little like where i was on sat, but the snow seems far more consolidated.
  8. How was the weather sunday? I was up near there on Saturday during a bit of rough weather, and had sort of an "adventure". Sunday weather in B-Ham was much nicer.
  9. Inspiring, but mostly B.S. Check out David Roberts' True Summit.
  10. Agreed, except I'd say you'd meet just about only interesting people on the PCT.
  11. Any clue when the NWAC will start with the forecasts?
  12. That's fucking B.S. Rowers had the highest V02 max on average of olympic athletes as surveyed for the 2000 summer and 2002 winter games. If you look at v02 max as a function of body mass, then rowers are a close second to XC skiers, as rowers tend to be bigger people.
  13. www.northernmountain.com You can get Omega pacific "modified D" carabiners for $3 and 40g JC wiregate carabiners for $4.86! Good time to buy.
  14. ?????? Anyone else not get this?
  15. I've just gotten a bunch of the superlight 8mm dyneema sligns from mammut. I know they are ful strength, and i have total faith in their ability to hold falls. However does anyone know if these need to be treated differently than typically sewn/tied nylon slings? I plan on reserving then for alpine stuff where approach weight is key, but can I still girth hitch them to slings on hexes/cams? Will I need to worry more about abraision on rocks? Thanks!

  17. Who started the original "cascade trivia" with this first question? I wrote that, but didn't start the thread... 10/15/03.

  20. Where in Portland (north end if possible) should i go to pick up some randonee odds and ends such as ski leashes and Cheat Sheets? Also, any reviews or advice for storing skins and using cheat sheets to keep everything running smoothly? -Blake

  23. I had the REI one, but i took it back in order to buy a new one for less money now that they are on sale. It's a good jacket for that price. Also, check out http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/47894251.htm?vcat=OUTLET_SEARCH That is an even nicer jacket, and a womens large=mens medium.

WHAT THE HELL????? I can't believe my eyes! Harpell makes a cogent argument involving a logical conclusion drawn from deductive reasoning an a series of reasonable assumptions!
