For any fans of indie rock, or general music fans, there's a great band from Portland called "Crosstide." I really recomend taking a listen to their New Song other info @ www.crosstide.net Now that Modest mouse, death cab, and some of the other local groups are going big-time, I think these guys will be next.

And what place did he get in the race? nobody even cares about finishers 1-5 who BEAT him.
-
Yeah, the round hill visible in your pic from Goode and visible in the foreground on that last picture is "Round Mountain" and you can even see the evidence of the recent fire there. I'll have to look out for a glimpse of Goode while riding up next time. Pretty amazing that such a large mountain can only be seen from so few spots. I don't think the summit is visible from any road. Here's a view of Macgregor from Stehekin landing

Klenke, your picture that is taken from the lake appears to be from a point near lucerne, and before passing moore Point/Round mountain. If this is the case then I guess you are right, Goode can be seen from Lake chelan, just not from Lake Chelan near Stehekin. Do you have a pic that is taken from the Stehekin landing looking up valley at Sahle/boston/Booker/Buckner? the outline of Booker and Buckner appear very blocky and look quite similar to your shot of Goode from along the boat ride.

I think that thw Washington PCT high point is right along Old Snowy.

I thought it might have Iain or cluck in there, if they were part of the rescue team then.

Right now (8:10 PM) A Dateline type show is having a big segment on Mt. Hood and a climbing accident from a few years ago. It might be rerun later too.
-
my impressions in general is that this is a less visited, and some more "dry and desolate" area than elsewhere in the area. However, as Klenke pointed out, there are some decent mtns, and the open terrain might lend itself to good skiing.
-
Well done josh. I have some friends who climbed it on the main route last summer and spent a day or two skiing the Sandalee Glacier, which the main route cuts across the top of. The Stehekin side is a steep trail for ~7 miles then about a mile of quite exposed class 3. Did you guys make it all the way to the summit Antenae? Hey Klenke, I don't think that Goode is visible in your picture that is looking from Lake Chelan up the valley. I'm 90% sure that you are seeing Booker/Buckner/Librarians' ridge leading to the McGregor summit. Here's another shot of McGregor, and also one from the top.

Well basically Saddamm and binladen were buddies with us because when it was "USA vs USSR" the enemy of our enemy was our friend. Not a good philosophy.

Yeah, there are "plans" but it wont be happening this summer completely. I am actually neighbors with a state highways engineer who does work up there, and he says it's going to be a pretty big job. I believe there are still plans to pave the road from the current 4.5M point to about the 9M point, but part of the road-bed might need re-routing first. I wouldn't be surprised if the eventual decision is to end the road at BRidge Creek, or Park creek. After all, following the '95 flood they decided to let the road end at Glory Mtn. instead of Cottonwood. At the very least I hope that they make it bikeable for this summer, but as of now it sounds like parts of the old road bed are completely gone, and you are dependent on water levels and your personal comfort/skill navigating wet rocks and bankside terrain merely to pass certain sections.

I don't understnad the Idea of using really bad tires or wheels for commuting. How is it different than normal riding? I commute ten miles each way on an ultegra-equipped road bike, with nice wheels, and I don't think they've been abused anymore than normal non-commute riding. (I am a fairweather commuter, if it's pouring, i'm driving)

That dude should be sent back to Jordan where he has an outstanding warrant against him for some huge fraud and theft. His connections to some powerful hawks in the administration, and his eagerness to lie and bring forth other liars who hyped iraq's threat to us, were major contributing factors to W's Iraq adventure.
-
It's not really extra mileage anymore josh. The Stehekin road now ends (at least for this summer) @ MP 10.3. This means about 6 miles to BRidge creek, and a few more to Park Creek.

where's the worm flows route?

I just heard on the news that he died at the hospital, or en route.

looks pretty edited to me.

If it's a super long ride, or you need clothes at work, you can do the rotating commute. Drive to work on monday morning, with bike in car, then biek back home. Bike to Work on Tuesday morning, and drive home with bike in car. Repeat. I have a very small '93 nissan Sentra, and I can still fit my road bike in the back seat after taking off the front wheel.

you do know it's a gay porn in disguise, right?

How much less? Good point, that means he DOES care some amount. good thing I posted that article to explain it to him.

Sure can, but I must say that I apologize for being wrong, it's not $80,000, it's now $100,000. http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/tax23_20030523.htm

I could care less what Bush's family did before he was born. Why would you have that position? I think a rational human would realize that the Bush family legacy, in Government, business, investing, and Yale were all crucial to GHW Bush and GW Bush, so why wouldn't you be interested to see how this family empire was built? Also, you WERE interested a minute ago when you asked for a link, now that one exists "you don't care". Here's a story on how family connections likely got GWB into Yale (he was turned down by the University of Texas.. daddy didn't go there) http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/01/20/timep.affirm.action.tm/

Here's the story on Bush's family selling Nazi war bonds while we were at war with Germany. It was published in the new hampshire gazette http://www.rense.com/general42/bshnazi.htm

Martlet, I'm going to try and use logic here with you, so I know i'm tready on thin ice here. Given:Drug Money from Islamic nations goes to terrorist causes. Given: Oil money from Islamic nations go to support terrorist causes. Given: The government has aired adds ( even in the super bowl) saying if you buy dope you support terrorism by creating demand for a product which finances terror. Given: The government will give Sole proprietors and folks with small business Licenses $80,000 tax breaks for buying the "Large" (read: gas guzzling) SUV types, increasing dependence on a foreign commodity which finances terrorism Ergo.... It is an ass-backwards policy.
