  2. I feel threatened by their lack of correct apostrophe usage. (and pronounciation of the word Goat)
  3. 2000K = 2,000,000 Who is towing more than 2million??????
  4. it can and does work. Sometimes it is best to bury the axe and use it as a deadman anchor. Refer to "Mountaineering, Freedom of the Hills" chapter 16 for all future Mountie-approved-technique questions along this vein.
  5. Anyone want to sell some cheap used AT boots? (scarpa laser...) US size 9, or 9.5? (mondo 27, 27.5)
  6. Sounds like bivying was actually the smart thing to do. Sometimes if you know you'll be safe it is best to go slow or bivy. Worrying never killed anyone, but hurrying a descent has killed many.
  7. Bellingham?
  8. Chuck Says:
  9. Now cheaper, one last try!
  10. Do you have any evidence to support that accusation? I've never heard that before. I've always heard that it was a consentual affair (as consentual as sex between a slave owner and his "property" can be anyway). Sally hemmings was either 14 or 15 when Jefferson first began to have sex with her. Jefferson was 45. Statutory rape at least.
  11. Dryad, this is what i was responding to by posting that mnay of our founding fathers were southern "red-staters":
  12. Other way around. Washington freed his his slaves in his will, Jefferson just raped them.
  13. A bunch of the "founding fathers" (Jefferson, Washington, Henry.....) were Southern slaveowners.
  14. I would check one of these out "in the flesh" b4 buying ... it has a great size to wieght ratio but I personaly think the way the floating lid adjusts it looks like it would make a nice rainwater collection system ... the lid doesn't really have much of a "skirt" to it to deflect/divert rain and/or snow fall Yeah, I'd really like to do just that, but I can't find anywhere that actually has them in the flesh. I guess with REI I could always just return it and get something else if i didn't like it.
  15. Allison, you have the bigger of the two sizes?
  16. I've posted 500+ unproductive times, and i'm still a miniwanker. I think this site calls Fred Beckey a Newbie.
  17. Serratus icefall @ MEC is $124, and heavier than either of these.
  18. I know there are a ot of good light packs out there, and this issue has been covered in depth. I've narrowed my choice down to 2, mostly due to monetary concerns, as I could get either of these packs for <$45. Any advice or experiences wth either of these? I want it as light as it can be to be functional for cragging and taking on overnight alpine trips. 2003 Mountainsmith Phantom http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/47649642.htm REI Talus35 http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47619435&parent_category_rn=4500574&vcat=REI_SEARCH thanks a lot.
  19. I'm interested in the friend, is it tech, or forged? PM sent.
  20. I'd say that there is a large "outdoors" scene in general. Climbing specific, there are a lot of boulderers, maybe because that's all there is to do in the town itself. We are 45 mins from Mt. Erie, 1.5 hrs from Index, and the North Cascades are close by. As mentioned, sqamish is a day trip, as is whistler.
  21. 22. dyneema, spectra, nylon.... etc. In America, cloth means: Fabric or material formed by weaving, knitting, pressing, or felting natural or synthetic fibers.
  23. On an unrelated note, if a sewn sling is a 48"er, is that 96" of total cloth, or is it 48" of total cloth, and 24" or distance from pro to rope? (i've always tied my own, but i'm thinking of getting some of the super light 8mm dyneema stuff)
  24. I want to pick up some non-recalled WC helum carabiners, but I can't seem to find anywhere that is selling them. Anyone know of a place that sells them? I thought that all the safe batches were still for sale, and I'm guessing that WC will keep making more safe ones, as these biners are so light.
