I got a pair of these at the Northface sale, and they are by far the stiffest boots I have ever owned. I have used them on a couple trips, and they have great support and are nice an toasty warm. I wore them up to Mailbox peak to break them in, and instead I think my feet were broken into the boot! I would just wear them on snow, and skip breaking them in on a steep non-snow hike if I did it again. I haven't had any problems like fern mentions, but it doesn't surprise me. The soles don't flex at all...so more likely they would crack.

Well, we know that certain chemical weapons were there for sure at some point (I believe the US helped Iraq develop this capablity)...and Iraq used them against Iran. My guess is that if there still are more than trace amounts, they are buried somewhere...and no house-to-house search is going to turn them up. I sure as hell hope they don't turn up! (...and not for any political reasons either)

I saw plenty of stories about the sarin, and no down playing...did I miss something there? The mustard gas, on the other hand, I had not heard of. A search on google news comes up with some stories in obscure news papers about a trace amount found in a shell in Baghdad earlier this month.

That was a gnarly looking cloud that just blew by....on their way to Madigen Hospital. Here's to Peter...let's hope he pulls through OK. And here is to the chopper pilot(s). From what I have read, both of those guys are pretty experienced. Obviously we don't have much information as to why the accident happened, but sometimes things just happen to even the most experienced. Could be that the weather wasn't the reason they had problems...but useless to speculate till we hear an official report.
