Who says I watch TV news? I get less than 1% of my news from TV.

It's way more than just CNN. I see it almost everywhere I go these days. It's the new OJ story. I've actually starting using it as a litmus test of news sources. If they report on the Bryant case, I don't use them any more.

There are 2 unfortunate circumstances involved in this: 1) news agencies are generally more interested in making a buck than reporting news these days, and 2) the Bryant trial (or whatever the scandal of the day is) sells because that's what the people want. Laying this all at the feet of the news agency is wrong. They show it because we (meaning the viewing public as a whole) want it. It's all about money, or that and pushing a political agenda in certain cases.

I prefer Cheesehead and Hoser I think "Canadian" is about as derogatory as you can get.

I thought Audiogalaxy went the way of Napster (without the rebirth). As far as I know, Usenet is the only want to get music for free without RIAA tapping you on the shoulder, particularly if your provider doesn't keep logs (yes it is illegal). I highly recommend Easynews. I rarely download music, however. There's just not that much decent music out there. I mainly use it for downloading episodes of TV shows I missed. Who needs TiVo when some nice person captures, encodes and posts your favorite TV shows to usenet each week? Just download, burn and pop it in my SVCD-ready DVD player.

I love how he has such Republican support when his few stated positions (pro choice, pro gun restrictions) put him at odds with their platform. Not to mention the Good Christian Family Values he represents with all that groping and group sex. But as long as he has an ® after his name, that's all that matters!

I had pretty nasty cold and got up to email my boss to tell her I wasn't coming in. Fired off the email then went to Yahoo News on a whim before going back to bed. Read the single headline and thought it was a joke. Half way through the article I still cound't understand why Yahoo News was printing a fake article like The Onion. Then it struck me and I turned on CNN just in time to see the second plane hit. I sat in front of the tv for the next 15 hours. It is the single most horrifying even I've ever seen. I can't imagine what it was like to be there. One of my best friends lives 2 blocks from Ground Zero and took these photos.

I watched "Bully" on HBO the other night. It's by the same director as "Kids" and very much in the same vein. Based on a true story in Florida (although with certain creative license taken). Excellent movie, but makes me even more resolute in not wanting kids.

There are still ways to download mp3s free from RIAA scrutiny, if you know what you are doing. Using one of those file-sharing programs is just asking for trouble these days, but there are other ways. I don't download that much, usually just to check out albums before I buy them -- there's just too many one-hit albums out there -- but I absolutely refuse to buy any new CDs from these fuckers. The only CDs I buy are used from either local used CD stores or on eBay for the hard-to-find stuff. Fuck the RIAA. And it's just a matter of time before truly anonymous P2P sharing systems are developed.

I don't know about that: Payrolls Slashed for 7th Straight Month. I was fortunate enough to find a job after getting laid off, unlike many of the people that were laid off with me.

For the first time in my life, I agree 100% with something trask has posted.

It's up to four weeks now? It was 3/week last year. Not that they ever asked me for my list. I lost track after I found a job, did they extend the length of benefits? It was 30 weeks when I was on it, plus I think a 12 week federal extension. I know people that have been unemployed for almost 2 years. Nice fucking economy.

Add that to the cuts to the already miniscule veterans' benefits. The soldiers get the shaft in the field and again when they get home.
